English Department Equity Statement

The UNBC Department of English recognizes that racism, white supremacy, anti-semitism, Islamophobia, sexism, ableism, homophobia, transphobia, ageism, and many other systemic barriers to learning and career progression unfortunately exist in academia. As such, we place high value on learning, teaching, research, and service that work to expose, record, and address equity, diversity, and inclusion (EDI) issues in our disciplines and communities. The department is committed to creating safe spaces for students who face systemic barriers.

The UNBC community is invited to join us on October 19, 5:30 pm (7-238, Weldwood Theatre) to view Ringu, a classic Japanese horror film. The film will be followed by a brief panel discussion. Free admission.

ENGL 440 and ENGL 640 (Postcolonial Literature) (crosslisted with GNDR 703) will now be offered during the Winter 2024 semester. See the UNBC schedule for further details.

Two more sections of ENGL 170 have been added for the September semester.

ENGL 480 Science Fiction (ONLINE) has been added as a Spring course (May 2023).

UNBC ENGL 270 (May 2022) has been cancelled but another section of ENGL 170 has been added.

Fall 2021 ENGLISH department courses are almost full but there are a few spaces. ENGL 350 has just been added.
