Natural Resources & Environmental Studies Institute links researchers and stakeholders to facilitate
NRESi works with communities, industry, and governments to find answers to questions and solutions to problems. It builds connections among university researchers and communities or external experts to advance understanding of natural resources and the environment. It also facilitates collaborative integrative and interdisciplinary projects to address complex issues involving ecological processes,
social values, and earth systems. NRESi fosters communication and interaction among faculty, graduate students, and associated researchers, including those working with the two UNBC research forests and the Quesnel River Research Centre. It also helps develop interactions with local communities, management agencies, and research professionals, from both industry and government. NRESi supports research focused on collecting baseline information, as well as applying that knowledge to practical problems. Doing so often requires blending expertise from diverse disciplines to solve complex problems of resource use. The integration of natural and social sciences, with respect to societal values, is key to a strong foundation for relevant education, research, and management. Within NRESi’s membership, there is a broad range of interest and expertise. These include, but are not limited to:
