๐ŸŽฃ What a great day on the land for our John Diefenbaker School students!

Last week, students had the opportunity to go snare fishing and learn about the importance of this traditional practice with Mrs. Poulin and Mr. Burns. Along the way, they learned that snare fishing is a Treaty right and discussed how this is a sacred time for the fish. Students explored ways to show respect for the fish, the water, and the land while gaining valuable knowledge about navigating local waterways safely.

A big thank you to Floyd Cook and his team at PAGC for providing this awesome experience! ๐ŸŸ๐ŸŒฟโ˜€๏ธ

Cultural week has kicked off this week at JD with an inspiring performance by Indigenous artist Eekwol!

Families were also invited to come make a Ribbon skirt or shirt with their child. We will have some stylish kiddos at our concert on Thursday!

Grade 2/3 Braaten learned all about composting and decomposers! Students learned how red wigglers help break down food scraps to create healthy soil for plants to grow. They also had the chance to examine the worms up close under a digital microscope and observe their movements and body features in detail. To finish off the activity, students helped feed and care for the red wigglers. Lots of wiggly fun, curiosity, and hands-on learning today! ๐ŸŒฑ ๐Ÿชฑโ™ป๏ธ

Last week, Grade 4H had an amazing land-based learning experience with Mrs. Poulin and Mr. Arpin! ๐ŸŒฒ๐Ÿ’ง

Students learned how to tap birch trees to collect birch water while exploring the bush and enjoying the beautiful outdoors. Along the way, they practiced respect for the land and learned about what the forest has to offer us.

๐Ÿ’š

In Grade 1, I had an art class project where we were asked to create our own clothing brand using things that were personal to us.

That was over 20 years ago.

Today, I had the opportunity to write a $1,000 cheque to my old elementary school, John Diefenbaker, for their emergency lunch program โ€” a program that helps provide lunches for students whenever a young person may need one for the day.

This brand started in January 2017 out of the trunk of my car. Since then, weโ€™ve received nothing but incredible love and support from the community. Along the way, weโ€™ve built amazing friendships, meaningful connections, and always aimed to make a positive impact in this world.

Today truly felt like a full-circle moment.

Thank you to everyone who has supported this journey over the years, and thank you to J.D. for being the place where the original idea was first created. โค๏ธโš™๏ธ
