Manitobans frustrated by lack of cell service in Waskada area

Maurice Saltel, reeve of the Municipality of Brenda-Waskada, said the issue is a matter of safety.

"We have a lot of people working on agricultural equipment, and in the oil patch," he said.

Saltel has contacted Bell MTS, the local provider, about putting up a cell tower.

Bell used to deliver a 3G wireless network but discontinued it.

"We have indicated to Bell that we are going to work with them to put that in and help, but they don't seem really interested at this point, which is unfortunate," Saltel said.

"But then [they] should be allowing other providers to maybe pick up the challenge. I'm talking about AT&T because we're really close to the border here."

Manitoba Government Invests $1 Million in Municipality of Killarney-Turtle Mountain

“We are proud to announce that we have already begun work on the rehabilitation and planning of the reconstruction of the Hungry Hills Bridge,” said Janice Smith, mayor, Municipality of Killarney-Turtle Mountain. “Bridges are a crucial part of the rural landscape and our transportation network. Without the help of our partners, like the Manitoba government, municipalities are finding it hard to maintain and replace them up to the standards of the day. We are very fortunate to be awarded these funds and able to continue work on our infrastructure plan.”

Her Seat at the Table invites aspiring council candidates to Pull Up a Seat

Her Seat at the Table is preparing for their next informational meeting taking place in early September. This grassroots support group for women wanting to step into their local political arena has gained significant traction over the past year, with interest from multiple municipalities across Southern Manitoba, as well as the AMM.

The September 2nd event, titled 'Pull Up a Seat' at the Her Seat at the Table Candidate Support School takes place on Wednesday, September 2, 2026.

The registration deadline is August 26, 2026. Registration costs $25 to cover materials, and advance registration is required. To register, email [email protected] by August 26. Participants will receive resources designed to guide them through every stage of their campaign.
