It was 9:47pm on a Wednesday.

My kids were asleep.

My coffee was cold.

We had just hired a new cleaning crew and I still had a staff memo to write.

Who handles what. What falls under educators. What falls under the cleaners. General cleaning expectations for everyone.

I’d been putting it off for three days.

Not because it was hard.

Because after a full day of running a childcare centre, I had nothing left.

So instead of staring at a blank page, I typed this into an AI app:

“Act as a childcare centre director. Write a warm, professional staff memo clarifying cleaning responsibilities now that a new cleaning crew has been hired. The memo should outline: tasks that remain the responsibility of educators (e.g. classroom tidying, sanitizing toys, wiping tables after meals), tasks that will now be handled by the cleaning crew (e.g. floors, washrooms, deep cleaning), and general expectations for maintaining a clean and welcoming environment throughout the day. Tone: clear, supportive, and team-focused.”

Two minutes later, I had a complete draft.

I changed three sentences to sound more like me.

I sent it at 9:52pm.

And I went to make a fresh cup of coffee.

This is not about replacing your thinking.

It’s about not doing the writing alone at 10pm when you’ve already given everything you have.

Over the past several months, I’ve been exploring that question.

There is a lot of conversation right now about AI in childcare.

But the conversation isn’t really about the tools.

It’s about how we choose to use them.

AI is not the solution on its own.

It’s how we use it — thoughtfully, responsibly, and in alignment with our values — that makes the difference.

In early childhood education, relationships will always come first.

Technology should never replace that.

But it can support the work behind the scenes, so educators and leaders have more time for what matters most.

That’s where the real opportunity lies.

There has been a lot of conversation about artificial intelligence in education.

But when it comes to early childhood education, it’s important to be very clear about something:

AI should never replace the relationships that sit at the heart of our work.

Educators observe children.
Educators build relationships.
Educators make professional judgments every day.

Technology should never take that away.

What AI can do, however, is help reduce some of the administrative workload that surrounds early childhood education.

When used thoughtfully, it can help educators and leaders spend less time on paperwork and more time with children.

This philosophy is the foundation of something I’ve been quietly building for the childcare community.

What might the childcare centre of the future look like?

Not classrooms replaced by technology.

Not educators replaced by machines.

But educators supported by better tools.

Tools that help reduce the administrative burden that has slowly grown around early childhood education.

Documentation that once took hours could be structured in minutes.

Communication could be clearer.

Leaders could spend less time buried in administrative work and more time supporting educators and children.

The future of childcare must remain deeply human.

Technology should simply help protect the time and relationships that matter most.

Why I started Little Cubs AI.

I’m not coming into this space from a tech background.
I’m coming into it as a parent and a childcare centre owner.

At Little Cubs, we serve over 100 children in our community. Every day, I see the care, dedication, and emotional energy educators bring into their work.

But I also see something else.

The paperwork. The compliance. The constant administrative demands.
Things that are necessary - but often take time away from what truly matters.

Over time, I started asking myself:

What if there was a better way to support educators?
What if technology could reduce the load - without taking away the human connection?

That question led me to start exploring AI.

Not to replace educators.
But to support them.

That’s how Little Cubs AI began.

For years, I’ve been immersed in the world of early childhood education - first as a paediatric nurse, then as a parent, then as the owner of a childcare centre serving over 100 children in our community.

During this journey, I’ve seen something very clearly:
educators do extraordinary work with children, but the administrative burden placed on childcare centres continues to grow every year.

Documentation. Compliance. Licensing. Policies. Reports.

While these are all important, they often take time and energy away from what matters most - relationships with children.

That’s what led me to start exploring something new.

Little Cubs AI was created to explore how artificial intelligence can responsibly support educators and childcare leaders by reducing administrative workload while protecting the human relationships at the heart of early childhood education.
