Children of all ages will thrive in this inquiry based learning environment! At Messy Hands we celebrate children’s individuality and follow their interests. Messy Hands has seized on the opportunity to include French as part of the daily activities with the children, and will provide a foundation for French language development taught in French immersion schools. The child care center is conveniently located between two French Immersion schools – Kilmer Elementary and Mary Hill Elementary and provides home-like environment with a lot of natural materials. There is an Art studio separate from the classroom where a vast variety of materials are available to the children at all times. The in-depth exploration of different art mediums and the long term projects give children the opportunity to learn new ways to express themselves, and become critical thinkers and problem solvers, qualities that are the foundation of better readiness for school. There are two separate sleeping areas, one for the babies and toddlers, and another room for the preschool age children. In the back yard we have a slide, mud kitchen and a veggie garden where the kids are going to grow their own vegetables. The owner/child care provider completed an Early Childhood Education program focused on studying and implementing the ideas and theories of the Reggio Emilia approach. The owner also has a French High School diploma. Some of the other certificates she holds are Child Cooking and Nutrition, Food Safety, Effective Classroom Interactions and Emergency Child Care First Aid. The owner has a clear Criminal Record Check by the Ministry of Justice. Messy Hands meets all provincial health and safety standards.

Orange Shirt Day 🧡
Today, we created our own little orange shirts using tie-dyed paper towels in different shades of orange. The children cut them into T-shirt shapes and decorated them with colourful Every Child Matters hearts.
Through this creative art experience, we reflected on the importance of kindness, love, inclusion, and making sure every child feels safe, valued, and loved. 🧡

🍁 Welcoming Fall Through Art 🍁

As summer slowly gives way to autumn, we created our own little celebration of the changing season.
For this mixed-media project, the children first transformed a simple silhouette of a woman into Fall herself. They used straws to blow liquid watercolours across her hair and dress, watching the colours spread, mix, and take unexpected shapes.
Then came the collecting, cutting, arranging, and gluing! We added real dried leaves, flowers, and little pieces of nature, along with pictures of fruits, vegetables, and suns that the children found and cut out from old magazines.
The finished pieces became colourful representations of everything we love about this season — the changing colours, the harvest, the sunshine, the crisp leaves, and the beauty of change.
A wonderful opportunity to explore mixed media, colour, texture, composition, fine-motor skills, creativity, and the changing seasons — all through play and art. ❤️

We have a new fish friend at daycare! 🐠
He’ll be visiting us for just two weeks, and he’s already enjoying a lot of attention. Sometimes he gets a little shy and hides among the leaves, so we patiently wait for him to come out and show us his bright orange tail again. 🧡
We’re having so much fun watching and taking care of our little visitor!
