Vancouver Island Soaring Centre offers scenic glider flights and flight instruction in Port Alberni
The VISC is nestled in the beautiful Alberni Valley, just minutes past the town of Port Alberni on the road to the Pacific Rim National Park, Tofino and Ucluelet. Our Transport Canada Certified pilots will carry you aloft in our state-of-the-art, two-seat glider. Seated up front, you will be surrounded by spectacular views of the Beaufort Mountains, crystal-clear freshwater lakes and waterfalls, ocean inlets and the rugged coastline of Vancouver Island.

I think we shall call her Kate (Kate-21…get it?). Welcome to the fleet! Former Australian Air Cadet ASK 21 Mi (VH-NQS if anyone in Oz is curious!). We’ve had a few self-launch test flights and she goes well - now to see how it fits into operations. Nice photo bomb from Coulson Aviation’s Herc too!

Soaring the convergence along the Beaufort Range in the Alberni Valley.
Thermalling and soaring with a whole bunch of playful eagles yesterday over Mt. Joan in the Alberni Valley. 🦅🦅🦅 Flying in a sailplane is about as close to being a real bird as you can get! Usually we use circling birds as a clue of where the lift is, but sometimes we have birds join us after we’ve found it first.

Lots of wave setting up yesterday afternoon so we went for a poke around. A little too much cloud and moisture getting in the way but we found a couple knots of lift in front of this dark monster.

A booming day for soaring in the Alberni Valley today! A lucky guest today got to experience a stunning 2-hour flight to Mt Arrowsmith and beyond. Several club members flew 4.5+ hours, reaching the Comox Glacier.
