Enjoying the gentle rain with windows that OPEN and a back yard we can use.
Slowly unpacking; some health issues are kind of slowing me down a wee bit, but this transition will be one of the best things that has happened to me in a long time.
Working on letting go of the negativity surrounding the old place (not my pig, not my farm) and will resist the urge to post a video of me waving sage like a spastic chicken. I mean, it's already been done from that space. I can think of better content than that.
I'm enjoying the fresh air rather than the overwhelming mint fumes from next door.
I'm enjoying quiet, peaceful lessons and breathing room.
I'm enjoying LIFE, which wasn't an opportunity at the old space. And if you were with me at the old space, you know exactly what I am talking about... the customer who said "did I just witness a drug deal?" when she looked outside. The customer who saw the graffiti on the burnt out building and asked what it meant (which still hasn't been dealt with though reported and I volunteered to paint over it with white paint MONTHS ago). Customers who witnessed people coming in demanding ci******es or a bathroom while snotting and puking. The crack pipes and drug smoke and violence. It took a toll, and I am glad to be putting it behind us. Compassion fatigue is real. When you call the fire department for a fire set in the Bylaw office alcove at 2am... or try to prevent alcoves from being taken over and used as injection sites... or keep people out of your own alcove when there is a shelter literally less than a block away...and yet people walk around with blinders on "oh I don't see any problems"...
3rd and Argyle is no longer an "uptown" and the revitalization stopped years ago. Many of the homeless persons we met while there told us "we were here first and we will win" and that truly is the case. I love the friendships I built with those persons I saw daily, cherished the time I spent with them, and wish them well.
Cheers to the future.
