John Rennie High School - There's Something Here for Everyone

John Rennie High School is part of Lester B. Pearson school board and is located in Pointe-Claire. Mr.

Our high school opened in 1955 and was named in memory of the Honourable John Rennie, member of the Legislative Assembly. Rennie was instrumental in persuading the government of Premier Duplessis to provide the funds to build a badly needed school in Pointe Claire. Families of the era were forced to send their youngsters as far away as Montreal West in order to pursue secondary studies. John Rennie has grown a great deal since those days of the basic Ministère de l'Éducation, du Loisir et du Sport (MELS) curriculum. John Rennie offers one of the most diverse curriculum available at the secondary level. We have two computer labs connected via the school board's fiber optic network. We also have a robotics lab where students learn to program robots for competition. We offer a range of options that we challenge other schools to meet: Pottery, Drama, Actors' Studio, Journalism, Spanish, Debating, Photography, World History, Music (concert and jazz band), Law, Psychology, Computer Applications, Architectural Technology, Advanced Physical Education, enriched Science electives, and Leadership. Our timetable is constructed to provide the students opportunities to enjoy a variety of options, while still pursuing a specific interest such as music.

It has been an action-packed week at John Rennie High School! Our community came together to observe Orange Shirt Day for Truth and Reconciliation, while the Class of 2027 kicked off their senior year with an unforgettable three-day trip to Toronto.

We are also making incredible progress in our annual Terry Fox Run, having raised approximately $22,000 toward our $30,000 goal, with exciting raffle prizes still up for grabs! On the field and court, our student-athletes demonstrated remarkable grit, highlighted by big wins in Open Girls Softball, Bantam Boys Soccer, and Cadet and Bantam Girls Volleyball.

We're getting close to reaching our goal of $30,000 for the Terry Fox Foundation. On Tuesday alone we added close to $5,000 to our total. Friday is our run, and we'd encourage everyone to take part, get sponsored to run, complete a pledge form, and to raise money for Cancer research. If everyone brought in $20 we'd exceed our goal!

We are wearing orange today to stand up and say that Every Child Matters. Maya and Emily read out the land acknowledgement this morning, this national day of truth and reconciliation. May we remember the atrocities of the past, and move forward to reconcile with the indigenous peoples. Why is JRHS wearing orange today?

For the National Day for Truth and Reconciliation, our staff and students are wearing orange to stand in solidarity with Indigenous communities and honor the survivors of the residential school system. Inspired by Phyllis Webstad’s story, the orange shirt reminds us that every child’s life, culture, and identity matter.

Today isn't just about what we wear, it's about what we learn. We are taking time in our classrooms today to listen, reflect, and actively commit to the ongoing process of reconciliation.

This week at John Rennie High School was filled with milestone celebrations, hands-on learning, and incredible athletic performances!

Our Grade 11 students traveled to Ottawa for an inspiring tour of Parliament, Sparks Street, and the famous Whispering Wall. Back on campus, we officially began celebrating a landmark milestone, John Rennie High School’s 70th Anniversary! We also launched an incredible week of Terry Fox fundraising prizes, featuring Montreal Canadiens tickets, WNBA gear, and gift cards to local favorites like Grille Nature, Eggspression, and Au Vieux Duluth.

To round out the week, our RSEQ athletic teams displayed fantastic grit, highlighted by a 1-0 shutout win for Juvenile Girls soccer against LCC and an 18-0 victory for Bantam Boys flag football.
