Happy National Seniors Day! Today we celebrate our incredible seniors in our organization as well as in our community.

September 30th is the National Day for Truth and Reconciliation and Orange Shirt Day in Canada.

It is a day to honour the children who never returned home, survivors of residential schools, their families, and Indigenous communities across Canada.
🧡
At its heart, this day is about truth-telling - acknowledging the injustices that occurred in residential schools across Canada for over 150 years is a first step.
🧡
How Literacy Plays a Role:
Literacy gives us access to history, knowledge, and perspectives beyond our own experience. It helps us seek out truth, challenge misinformation, and deepen our understanding of the past.
🧡
For generations, Indigenous children were prevented from speaking their languages and practicing their cultures, disconnecting them for their identity, and belonging.
🧡
What We Can Do:
Wearing an orange shirt is an important symbol of remembrance and solidarity. Reconciliation also asks us to listen, learn and act.

The National Centre for Truth and Reconciliation (NCTR ) has created a series adult education webinars, as well as many other helpful resources.
