Throwback Thursday - Photos from the 2014 SAC Instructors Course at the Southern Ontario Soaring Association (SOSA). Rockton Ontario. There were three (3) instructor candidates (IC) from RVSS, the others were from SOSA. The course instructors were John Brennon (SOSA), Dean Toplis (Great Lakes), and Dan Cook (SAC Crse Director). The SOSA environment was very different coming from a small club at Kars Ontario.

Our Story

About GGC

The Gatineau Gliding Club is the longest continuously operating gliding club in Canada, first incorporated in 1942.

The Pendleton aerodrome was built as part of the British Commonwealth Air Training Plan (BCATP) during WW2 and help to cement Canada’s reputation as the “Aerodrome of Democracy” in training Allied pilots during the war. Pendleton was home to #10 Elementary Flight Training School until the end of the war. A commemorative plaque was erected by the RCAF association at the aerodrome in 2000 to commemorate the role of #10 EFTS and Pendleton aerodrome.

The purchase of Pendleton by GGC cemented a natural link between the golden age of aviation training in Canada and GGC. For decades, pilots have learned to fly, soar and enjoyed the camaraderie of aviation minded individuals at the Pendleton aerodrome. GGC is living proof that soaring is not just a hobby but a way of looking at and living life…
