Dear learners,

A few years ago, I had hoped to expand my Beginner Spanish classes and offer in-person training in more areas. While that was a meaningful goal at the time, things have shifted, and I’m no longer able to pursue that project. That said, I’m excited to share that I’ve joined ACA-Prolang full-time as a Learning and Development Coordinator. ACA-Prolang is a national leader in Business Language Training, and I’m thrilled to be part of a team that’s making a real impact across Canada.

For those still interested in learning Spanish, thank you for your patience! I didn’t want to leave you empty-handed, so here are a few great options to explore:

ACA-Prolang offers online Spanish classes as part of its business language training programs.
Spanish 2 GO continues to thrive with its passionate approach to online conversational Spanish for all levels.
Locally, I recommend Parle moi en espagnol - Háblame en español - it’s a great, accessible resource for learners who prefer face-to-face interaction in the Eastern Ontario region.

I encourage you to keep pursuing your language learning goals, wherever they may take you! And who knows, perhaps our paths will cross again somewhere in the wonderful world of language training! 😉📚

Dear learners,

Just a reminder that I will no longer be running private and group lessons this fall, due to unforeseen circumstances. All payments have now been refunded.

Life had a different plan for me and I am embracing it. I am placing this beautiful project of ours on the shelf to take care of my precious mother until further notice.
I hope to be able to be a part of your learning journey sometime in the future.
Until then, thank you for your patience.

Emmanuelle

Dear learners,

My mother has suddenly become very ill and my focus will be on her recovery now. Spanish classes will be canceled for the Fall. I will be issuing full refunds to those who have already submitted their payments by the end of next week.

Please consider Spanish 2 GO as your best option for learning moving forward.

Thank you for understanding.
Sincerely,

Emmanuelle

My dear friend spoke to me about the Duolingo podcast! This is an amazing way to build comprehension skills and to learn tons of interesting historical facts about Latin America. Stories are told at a slow pace to ensure maximum comprehension. If you're interested you can also try the Duolingo app and work on your language learning goals at your own rhythm. 😊

These are fun and accessible educational tools!! I hope you enjoy!

Individualité - Individuality

(English will follow)

« Mucho gusto », « Encantado(a) », « Un placer ».

Let's use French as an example.
French in Canada varies from New-Brunswick to Nova-Scotia, from Ontario to Quebec and the same can be said I suppose for everywhere else across the country. Even locally, I’ve always noticed how the French spoken in Orleans, in Rockland and again in Plantagenet (I’m referring to people who were born and raised in these towns like myself) is somewhat unique to each town. Some of you might have noticed this too. I can hear some distinctions in pronunciation, different accents and vocabulary, yet all three towns/cities are only 20 minutes apart and along the same highway.

In the past few months, I’ve had the opportunity to meet people in my community from different countries where Spanish is the official language – El Salvador, Colombia, Venezuela and Mexico. I noticed the beautiful variety of words they used to say ‘Pleased to meet you’.
‘Mucho gusto’, ‘Encantado(a)’, ‘Un placer’.

This was an important reminder for me that regions, life experience, a person’s upbringing, their education, and many other factors influence how a language is used by each person. Remaining conscious of everyone’s individuality, and that there are many different ways to say the same thing is an essential part of learning.

What other expressions have you used or heard to say ‘pleased to meet you’ in Spanish?

Teaching material and methods.
Here are the books I use to teach Spanish level 1. Although they have been discontinued, I love to use them because I have tested them myself as a student in university. I trust this program and I love the content, and how it is presented. This book has 15 units. Each unit contains pragmatic competencies (interaction/conversation), sociocultural knowledge, grammar and vocabulary.
You may still buys the books, some copies are available online, but otherwise I will be supplying photocopies of a few pages we will be needing in class, while respecting copyright of course.

The books may not be the newest (they even come with a CD for audio exercises 😅) but that doesn't have any influence on learning the language.

Aside from using these books, I use slides and share links for free online exercises. I try to speak in Spanish as much as possible, as immersion is one of the best ways to learn (probably the best). I also talk with my hands and make a lot of gestures to ensure everyone is following me. I am a French Canadian after all, what can I say 😆 I offer additional explanations in your first language. I am looking forward to working together!😊
