2022 Pelican Lake index netting
Provincial fisheries staff will be conducting their index netting program on Pelican Lake this week from June 21-24. The index netting program in the southwest sees 5 lakes sampled on a 5 year rotation. You will see some flags out on the water, these are there to mark their nets. **Please take precautions to avoid these areas and make sure you do not pass between the 2 flags, as this could damage the nets and/or your watercraft and equipment.**
This program is necessary to assess the fishery and provide important information to help manage it for the future. Staff understand the walleye fishing has been fantastic over the last 12 months and want to better understand what factors are contributing to this. How old are these fish? What other species are present and in what numbers? These are just a few questions that will be answered and help Manitoba fish and Wildlife continue to successfully manage the Pelican Lake fishery. The sampling methods used for this program will provide the most, and most accurate information for all fish sampled. Any fish that can be returned to the lake will be sampled and returned and staff will do everything possible to ensure any fish from the sampling are utilized.

Help out RMNP!
Show us your Bass!
If you fish, we need your help to protect Clear Lake. Here’s what you can do:
1. Get your RMNP fishing license
2. Fish and catch as much Smallmouth Bass in Clear Lake, as you like
3. Stop by the AIS inspection station so we can weight & measure your catch
4. Leave your catch with us OR take it all home for a big fish fry!
This valuable information helps us better understand how smallmouth bass affects the natural lake ecosystem as well as limit the establishment of this invasive fish.
