Yesterday, a group of our senior high students had the opportunity to attend the Baie Verte Mining Conference. It was a fantastic day filled with valuable learning experiences as students gained insight into the mining industry, explored potential career pathways, and made important connections with professionals in the field.

Experiences like these help students better understand the opportunities available to them and the skills needed for success in the workforce.

A big thank you to Mr. Osmond and Mr. Chippett for accompanying our students and helping make this experience possible. We would also like to extend our sincere appreciation to the conference organizers for hosting such a well-organized and informative event. Thank you for investing in the future of our students!

Tonight marked our last Community Skill Share of the year, and what a wonderful way to finish! This evening’s skill was taught by Juliette from Heritage NL with the help of Jonathan Winsor. It quickly became one of our favorite sessions as everyone had the opportunity to choose colourful cotton strips to braid and sew their very own rug — a craft that is currently on Newfoundland and Labrador’s endangered craft list.

A big thank you to BJ for preparing our lunch and helping make each session feel so welcoming and enjoyable.

And the biggest thank you of all goes to our incredible community supporters who came back time and time again throughout the year. Our goal with these skill shares was to strengthen school and community partnerships, and while it was certainly a lot of work at times, we are so proud of the connections, friendships, and partnerships we’ve built along the way.

Thank you all for making this such a successful year. We can’t wait to see everyone again at the next Skill Share this fall!

Attention student athletes! 📣

As we wrap up another great year of sports at Dorset Collegiate, we’re asking all athletes to please check at home for any team uniforms or sports clothing that may still be out. We are currently missing a number of jerseys and team shirts that need to be returned to the school as soon as possible.

Please bring any items back to the office or to your coach this week. Your help is greatly appreciated as we prepare for next year’s teams and athletes.

Our junior badminton team participated in a tournament yesterday in Springdale and we couldn’t be prouder of how they represented our school! Everyone played great, worked extremely hard, and showed fantastic determination and teamwork throughout the day.

Congratulations to Lexie and Gemma on earning silver in girls doubles during the individual event, and a special congratulations to Lacey for receiving the Female Sportsmanship Award!

A big thank you goes out to Ms. Stead and Mr. Reid for all of their hard work, support, and dedication to the team this season. Great job everyone!

Today we said goodbye to one of our international students, Alice. Over her time with us, Alice brought such positivity, kindness, and a strong work ethic to our school community. She has been a wonderful addition to Dorset, and we are so grateful for the friendships and memories she leaves behind.

We wish Alice all the very best in her future adventures and hope she knows she will always have a place here at Dorset. Safe travels and good luck with everything ahead!
