🧡 Orange Shirt Day | Every Child Matters 🧡
Today, on the National Day for Truth and Reconciliation, our school wears orange to honour the Indigenous children who were sent to residential schools, to remember the children who never returned home, and to honour Survivors, their families, and Indigenous communities.
In our little forest school, we believe childhood is sacred. Each child deserves to be surrounded by love, belonging, culture, stories, play, and the freedom to grow into exactly who they are meant to be.
As we walk the forest paths, learn through the changing seasons, and gather together in circle, we are reminded to listen with open hearts, care for one another, honour the stories and Indigenous ways of knowing that came before us, and walk gently upon Mother Earth.
📖 Around the fire, we shared Walking Together by Elder Dr. Albert D. Marshall and Louise Zimanyi, illustrated by Emily Kewageshig, a gentle story about walking in harmony with the land and with one another.
May we raise children who know kindness, respect, courage, and gratitude, and who understand that every child, in every generation, matters.
