Grateful for this! with support to so many Kerry Ramsey

Meet Ruth Gangbar, a food stylist and entrepreneur based in Prince Edward County. We recently asked Ruth to tell us about the impact storytelling has on her business.

Q - Who do you serve with your business?

A – I serve a range of clients for my food styling business (preparing food for the camera), including cookbook authors, marketing boards, magazines, restaurants, hoteliers, farmers, ad agencies and value added producers seeking digital and print assets.

I also write recipes to go with images for online content, including my free online cooking club for kids (Food Styling for Kids).

Q - What’s the “why” behind your business?

A – I find networking with small business owners a great source of meaningful inspiration, including for my own journey and brand. Helping others is my favourite sauce.

Q - How does your personal story connect to the work you do?

A - I live surrounded by evolving culinary resources here in Prince Edward County. I love translating that experience into visual storytelling (and consumption too!).

Sharing stories of the people behind dining tables or tractors draws from all my senses is nourishing on many levels, and never gets dull. Photographs can be thought-provoking “containers” and shimmering, versatile art at a commercial level for which I’m so fortunate to be part of.

Thanks so much for sharing your story with us, Ruth!

Here’s your recipe Evan ! for your Hart ❤️ using
SWEET POTATO-PEAS-BLACKBERRIES

Sweet Potato Fries with Disney Sauce

Green and purple cartoon characters inspire these dips, so call these Shrek, Ninja Turtle or Ariel sauces? Just don’t try using an immersion blender to purée the peas, or they’ll fly all over the kitchen. This is actually quite tasty, but will Hart eat it? Send pics PLEASE !

EQUIPT:
large bowl, parchment paper, baking sheets, food processor,
wire mesh strainer, small mixing bowls.

INGRED:
2 Sweet potatoes, sliced in even sized wedges or “fries”
1 tsp cornstarch(or enough to coat )
2- 3 Tbsp. olive oil
1/2 cup frozen peas, defrosted
8 blackberries
1/4 cup plain yogurt, divided
1/2 tsp apple cider vinegar or lemon juice
1 tsp honey
Pinch garlic powder
to taste your favourite seasonings

1. Preheat oven to 425 F

2. In a large bowl, toss sweet potatoes like a chef, with cornstarch. Then toss with enough olive oil to coat.

3. Place potatoes in a single layer onto parchment-lined baking sheets; bake for about 20 minutes or until browned, tender and crisp, turning halfway.(Allow them to caramelize, but be careful not to burn!)

4. PURPLE DIP: Microwave blackberries for 30 seconds; mash with a fork. Using a spoon, press through a wire mesh strainer; discard seeds. Combine with half the yogurt.

5. GREEN DIP: In a food processor, purée peas, vinegar, honey, garlic and remaining yogurt.

6. To serve, toss hot sweet potatoes with seasoning of your choice (like salt, oregano, smoked paprika, black pepper), and little dipping bowls of sauce.
