From the Principal’s Desk

One of the outcomes we seek to give students at KCCS is a love of learning. I’m sure many teachers, even apart from the private Christian school, imagine this to be an important aim. It certainly sounds lovely doesn’t it? But frankly it is all too easy, in striving for such a lofty goal, to settle for merely making school entertaining. One might begin to think that if the children are enjoying themselves in the classroom, then they will love learning. Although there is a part truth to this, since enjoyment in receiving lessons is an element of the love of learning, what we mean in a Classical Christian Education when we say ‘a love of learning’ is something much more.

We are striving to shape the hearts of these children to have the kind of humility that desires direction from others, the kind of prudence that listens carefully to instruction, the kind of wisdom that loves correction—and even rebuke—, and the kind of faith that seeks to know, make known, and be known by the Lord Jesus Christ. If our students come out looking like that, then we can say they truly love learning.

At KCCS, education is designed to grow alongside the child.

From the earliest years through Grade 8, students move through different stages of learning that build upon one another.

🌱 Kindergarten
We begin by cultivating wonder, attentiveness, curiosity and joyful learning, laying the foundation for a love of truth, goodness and beauty.

📚 Grammar School | Grades 1–6
Students build a strong foundation of knowledge through memorization, recitation, stories and exploration. Their natural curiosity and love of learning are nurtured as they discover the world around them.

🔎 Logic School | Grades 7–8
As students grow, so does the way they learn. They begin moving beyond simply knowing information to asking “Why?” They examine evidence, identify assumptions, make connections and learn to construct thoughtful arguments.

The goal?
To cultivate not only what students know, but how they think, what they love and how they pursue truth.

That's the beauty of a Classical Christian education at KCCS.

Marveling at the Moon!

Our opening hymn began with "All nature sings, And round me rings, the music of the spheres" - as we held up a moon model and discussed how all these spheres in the universe cry out 'glory!'

We discussed the seasons, the darker nights of winter, the law of gravity and how the moon is a rock!

Reading a fun tale about a fox on the hunt by the light of the moon (after a folk song) had the students also playing 'fox hunt' for the hidden chicken eggs!

After studying and colouring the phases of the moon, we used a flashlight to see how to sun reflects on a spinning moon/earth... while tossing marbles in flour showed how craters form from meteors hitting the moon!
