Today, we remember the Indigenous women, girls, and gender-diverse people who have been taken from their families, loved ones, and communities through violence and disappearance. We honour their lives and acknowledge the profound loss carried by those who love them.

As education workers, we can help by continuing to learn, sharing the importance of this day, challenging racism and discrimination, and ensuring these truths are not ignored. We can also support the calls from families, survivors, and Indigenous communities for justice, accountability, and meaningful change.

Every Indigenous woman, girl, and gender-diverse person deserves safety, dignity, and a future free from violence.

May we honour those who are missing and those whose lives were taken through our commitment to the work that remains.

The National Day for Truth and Reconciliation is observed annually on September 30 to honor residential school survivors, their families, and communities, and to remember the children who never returned home. Please continue to learn about the full history of the land we call home.

Franco-Ontario Day is celebrated every year on September 25 to honor the history, culture, and contributions of Ontario's French-speaking community. We are lucky to have members of this community in our ranks and we will continue to ensure protections to fulsome French language learning in Ontario schools.
