Ephy has been creating fun, hands-on learning opportunities that support children’s development while keeping them engaged and excited to learn!

🎨 Fine Motor Skills:
The children matched coloured sticks to the corresponding-coloured stickers placed in a pool noodle. This simple activity encouraged colour recognition, hand-eye coordination, concentration, and fine motor control as the children carefully placed each stick into the correct spot.

🎯 Together Wee Can – Sticky Targets:
As part of our Together Wee Can curriculum, the children had fun throwing balls at hula hoops with sticky tape attached! This activity encouraged gross motor development, coordination, aim, spatial awareness, and turn-taking—all while having lots of fun.

We love seeing our providers turn everyday materials into meaningful learning experiences! 💕 A big shoutout to Ephy for creating engaging opportunities where children can learn, explore, move, and grow through play! 💚

Sharing a Providers learning story🦋

Today brought an exciting surprise to our indoor classroom! When Blair and Remi arrived this morning, we headed downstairs and discovered not one, but two beautiful butterflies had fully emerged from their chrysalises!

The excitement and wonder were shared by everyone as we carefully observed their newly unfolded wings. Together, we researched how to care for butterflies after metamorphosis and learned that they need energy while their wings continue to strengthen. We prepared a small dish of sugar water and sliced fresh oranges, giving them a safe place to rest and drink the sweet juice with their long proboscises.

This hands-on experience has been an incredible opportunity to witness the final stage of the butterfly life cycle firsthand. The children have been asking thoughtful questions, making observations, and caring for our tiny visitors with such kindness and curiosity.

Over the next 2–3 days, we’ll continue to observe and care for our butterflies before releasing them outdoors, where they can begin the next chapter of their amazing journey. What a wonderful reminder of the beauty of nature and the incredible transformation that happens through patience and time!

This month, we’re celebrating two outstanding Wee Watch Home Child Care Providers and the incredible dedication they have shown to children and families over the years.

🎉 Congratulations to Christine on 16 years!
🎉 Congratulations to Shelley on an incredible 23 years!

One of the most special parts of home child care is the lasting relationships that are built between providers, children, and families. Christine and Shelley have both created nurturing, welcoming environments where children feel safe, supported, and encouraged to learn, grow, and thrive.

Throughout her 16 years with Wee Watch, Christine has built strong connections with the families she supports. Many families value the bond they have developed with her so much that after their children transition to kindergarten, they return to Christine’s program for summer care. These lasting relationships are a true reflection of the trust and care she provides.

Shelley has also created meaningful connections with generations of families throughout her 23 years as a provider. She has supported many children from their infant years through to their transition to school, and often continues those relationships by welcoming siblings of children who have previously been in her care.

The dedication, patience, and love that Christine and Shelley bring to their programs each day have made a lasting impact on so many children and families. Their commitment to fostering children’s development while creating a home away from home is truly inspiring.

✨ Staff Spotlight: Kendra – Childcare Administration ✨

Kendra began her journey with Wee Watch as a placement student, where she quickly became a valued part of our team, supporting child care administration and bringing a thoughtful, enthusiastic approach to her work.

During her time with us, Kendra has shown a strong commitment to children’s well-being and development, with a particular passion for nature-based learning and the importance of risky play in building confidence, resilience, and independence. She consistently brings curiosity and care to everything she does, always keeping children at the heart of her work.

This fall, Kendra will be heading to Trent University to continue her studies and further pursue her teaching career. We are so proud of her next step and know she will continue to make a meaningful impact wherever she goes.💚🌿
