Forensic Science Camp 2023 Day 2 Recap!

🚨🚔 Oh no! A crime has happened on campus! It’s now up to our campers to use their forensic knowhow to collect evidence and solve the case 💪👮

🧤🥼Campers suited up in their personal protective equipment and processed the crime scene using the proper forensic methodology. 🥼🧤

🧬🧪Campers then earned their pipetting license and used polymerase chain reaction to amplify genetic profiles from the evidence they collected and submitted for DNA analysis. 🧪🧬

🪰🪲We finished up the afternoon learning about Forensic Entomology. Campers made their own fly traps and hung them up around campus. Check back in a few days to see what forensically relevant insects we find! 🪲🪰

Forensics Camp 2023 Day 1 Recap!

📚 We started our day with an introduction to Forensic Science and Crime Scene Investigation. Then campers heard a fantastic guest lecture about Forensic Anthropology from Dr. Joel Cahn, Chair of the Master’s of Forensic Science Program and an active Forensic Anthropologist! We then heard a guest lecture from Dr. Colleen Doyle, a Wildlife Forensic Scientist at the Natural Resources DNA Profiling and Forensic Center. 📚

🩸 In the afternoon we explored bloodstain pattern analysis with guests Dr. Orr, Lelo, & Shaijieni from the .materials.lab where students formed their own hypotheses about how height of origin affects blood drip patterns. 🩸

We finished our day off with a trip to the Riverview Park & Zoo! 🦦🦚
