The 2026 Celebration of Community-Based Research brought together students, faculty, and community partners for an inspiring evening of collaboration, innovation, and impact at Market Hall.

This marked a significant milestone with 180 students showcasing 70 student-led research projects in collaboration with 41 local government, non-profit, charity, conservation, and community interest groups.

The evening featured a dynamic poster showcase, engaging student presentations on topics ranging from volunteerism and paramedicine to turtle habitats and mental health, and an awards ceremony recognizing outstanding contributions from students, faculty, and community leaders.

Thank you to everyone who participated, supported, and helped make this event such a success. We are proud to celebrate the incredible work being done across Trent University and beyond.

🔍 Matched Project Highlight
In partnership with the City of Kawartha Lakes, this project explores how short-term rentals impact local communities. While STRs can support tourism and local businesses, the research also examines concerns around housing availability and neighbourhood dynamics.

Led by student researcher Caleb Khan and supervised by Karen Pinto, the project investigates whether the benefits of short-term rentals outweigh their drawbacks, helping inform policies that balance economic opportunity with community well-being.
