UPDATED COMMUNITY SUPPORT ANNOUNCEMENT - AUGUST 11, 2026The En’owkin Centre Board and Staff extend our continued sympathy and heartfelt support to our fellow Syilx Nation members at Okanagan Indian Band (OKIB), their families and loved ones. We are deeply affected by the losses and displacement experienced during this difficult time. We are also supporting En’owkin staff and students from Penticton Indian Band (PIB) who have been in the evacuation zone since Friday, August 7, as a result of the Bald Range fire and now require immediate emergency support.
As a private post-secondary institution serving the Syilx Okanagan Nation, En’owkin is privileged to work with instructors, staff and students through our language, cultural and arts programs. Members of our En’owkin community have been directly affected by the wildfires, including evacuation and the loss of homes. We are mobilizing immediate emergency support, including gas cards and emergency financial assistance for personal essentials, and coordinating with OKIB Council members and PIB evacuation response teams so assistance reaches those in need quickly.
The En’owkin Centre is governed by the Okanagan Indian Educational Resources Society
(OIERS), a Provincial not-for-profit society and a Federally registered charitable organization (Charity No. 107793580RR0001). OIERS is accepting donations to support wildfire relief for affected OKIB members and En’owkin staff and students from PIB, including those facing home loss, evacuation or immediate emergency needs. Relief will be coordinated with guidance from OIERS Board members from OKIB and in coordination with PIB evacuation response teams. Official donation receipts will be issued for eligible donations of $500 or more.
Donations of any amount may be sent by e-transfer to [email protected] or [email protected].
