My career has taken a few different turns over the years ☕

I started out in childcare, then moved to Calgary where I managed a Moxie’s restaurant and later became a Starbucks store manager. I’ve always loved being a leader, building a great team, and creating a place where people actually enjoy being.

Eventually, I followed my heart back to childcare, and it brought together so many of the things I love. I get to lead an amazing team, dream up Pinterest-worthy activities the kids actually want to do, decorate and design our spaces, and find any excuse I can to get creative.

I’m also a mom to two boys who are 15 and almost 18, which I’m still trying to wrap my head around.

One of my absolute favourite parts of Kid's Connection is running into families around Penticton whose kids I had in daycare or Before and After School Care years ago. I love hearing what they’re doing now, where they’re headed next, and getting those little updates on kids I remember when they were so small.

That’s one of the things I love most about living and working in a smaller community like Penticton. I get to run into our families around town, watch their kids grow up, and still feel connected to them years after they’ve left Kid's Connection💚

Reminder: enjoy a $100 tuition credit if you enroll your child prior to Oct 15th, and now back to the regular programming 😜

There is a whole world inside these walls that unfolds long after drop off, and most of it never makes it into a quick hallway update.

Our newest addition is a little cash register with a scanner piece that beeps every time a piece of pretend food passes over it, and the kids line up like it is the busiest checkout in the Okanagan.

Down the hall, our nap room turns into something out of a dream. A projector fills the walls with slow moving light and sparkly patterns while little ones settle in for rest, the kind of calm most parents only ever hear about secondhand.

And then there is the track room, where a set of little cars gets driven in circles with the same seriousness some adults reserve for actual traffic.

This is the version of the day you do not usually get to see, and it might just be our favourite part of Yorkton 💚

1️⃣ The wild energy right after the school bell is not bad behaviour. Kids need to move before they can settle, and a bit of physical activity before homework time actually helps them focus better than sitting straight down to it
2️⃣ Friendships with kids in other grades are not a consolation prize. Mixed age friend groups build real leadership in older kids and real confidence in younger ones
3️⃣ The kid who seems too cool for the planned activity is often the first one to join in if nobody makes it a big deal
4️⃣ How much a family and an educator actually talk shows up in how settled a kid feels in the program, not just how many forms get filled out
5️⃣ A five minute conversation at pickup tells us more than any form ever could

None of this is a complaint, it is just what happens behind the scenes when someone genuinely cares about how your kid's afternoon actually went 💚

Between Tickleberry's saving scoops since 1990, Patio Burger right on the lake, Lickety Splitz and their 48 flavours, and VeriBerry for anyone who wants frozen yogurt instead, there is genuinely no shortage of places to take the kids after pickup 🍦
