Goldfish Minute to Win It!

There is a version of summer that only really happens here in the Okanagan, and it has nothing to do with a screen.

It is sandy toes from an afternoon at Skaha Beach, sticky fingers from a Tickleberry's cone that melted faster than anyone could keep up with, and bathing suits doubling as an outfit for most of the day. It is the kind of tired that comes from actually playing outside from morning until dinner.

At Kids Connection Uplands, every morning of summer camp is built around a brand new weekly theme with a special activity, and every afternoon is packed with water play, slip and slide, a bouncy castle, parachute games, messy arts and science, sand play, and bubbles.

The kind of days they'll still be talking about in September.

🍏Full days run 8am to 5pm for $45 a day.
🍏Mornings only are 9am to 12pm for $25 a day.

Educators see a lot that never makes it into a pickup conversation, mostly because there is never quite enough time at the door.

Here is some of what they wish more parents knew 👇

1️⃣ Clingy drop offs are not a red flag. Kids who are securely attached can still get anxious or clingy during transitions, it does not mean daycare is not working for them
2️⃣ The best learning is not always the structured stuff. Open ended, unstructured play is where kids build language, communication, and problem solving skills
3️⃣ A consistent bedtime matters more than how many hours of sleep your kid actually gets. It is linked to how well kids handle their emotions and behaviour the next day
4️⃣ How connected a center and a family are actually shows up in how socially skilled and secure a child becomes, so those quick pickup conversations matter more than they seem
5️⃣ A five minute chat at pickup tells us more than any form ever could

None of this is a complaint, it is just what happens behind the scenes when someone genuinely cares about how your kid's day actually went 💚
