🚨 The City of Penticton has activated its Emergency Operations Centre and is hosting those who have been evacuated from Summerland and the RDOS due to the Bald Range Wildfire (K51490).

❗️IMPORTANT:

◾Evacuees are encouraged to register upon arrival at the Penticton Trade and Convention Centre, 273 Power Street.
◾If you are safe, please self-register with ESS by calling 1-800-387-4258.

Support available:

◾Food and essential services
◾Free showers and washrooms at the Penticton Community Centre
◾Children's play zone
◾Pet support through ALERT

If you complete all of the recommendations identified during your assessment, or your property already meets FireSmart standards and no recommendations are required, you may be eligible to receive a FireSmart Certificate.

- Recognition for your FireSmart efforts
- Potential insurance savings

Insurance providers are increasingly recognizing the value of FireSmart actions. For example, BCAA offers discounts for homeowners who complete a Wildfire Mitigation Program assessment, with additional savings available upon receiving FireSmart certification.

The Co-operators also offers eligible clients a discount related to wildfire coverage for FireSmart-certified properties and/or properties located in FireSmart-recognized neighbourhoods.

The Ready Where We Live provides micro-grants of $250 to $500 to support neighbourhood-led emergency preparedness activities across the South Okanagan Similkameen.

The City is extending hours at several locations again today due to higher temperatures. Please see extended hours for all facilities below, as well as regular hours of service.

🔶Heat Advisory🔶

The City extends hours at several locations to help everyone beat the heat during Yellow Heat Warnings.

A Yellow Warning Heat Advisory remains in effect for the Okanagan Valley through Thursday, with elevated temperatures expected to continue. A Yellow Air Quality Warning is also in effect, with wildfire smoke causing or expected to cause poor air quality and reduced visibility.

To help residents and visitors stay safe and cool, the City of Penticton is extending access to cooling spaces:

🏢 Penticton Community Centre (325 Power St.)
🕕 Open from 6 a.m. to 10 p.m.
*Regular services end at 8 p.m.

📚 Penticton Public Library/Museum Lobby (785 Main St.)
🕤 Open from 9:30 a.m. to 10 p.m.
*Library services close at 8:30 p.m.
*Museum services close at 5 p.m.

💧 Water fill stations are available at both locations, and Bylaw Enforcement and Community Safety Officers will be on-site with water for those in need.

🌬️ Looking to cool off outdoors? Visit the permanent misting station at Gyro Park, where you'll also find a water fill station for both people and pets.

Extreme heat is expected in Penticton over the next several days.

High temperatures can be more than just uncomfortable, they can quickly become dangerous. Heat-related illness can affect anyone, but older adults, infants and young children, pregnant people, people with chronic health conditions, outdoor workers, and pets are at greater risk.

Here are a few simple ways to stay safe:
💧 Drink water regularly, even if you don't feel thirsty.
🏠 Spend time in air-conditioned buildings or other cool public spaces if your home becomes too warm.
🪟 Close blinds and curtains during the day and open windows overnight if it's cooler outside.
👕 Wear lightweight, light-coloured clothing and limit strenuous outdoor activities during the hottest part of the day.
👥 Check in on neighbours, friends, and family members; especially anyone who may need extra support.
🚗 Never leave children or pets in a parked vehicle, even for a few minutes.

Know the signs of heat illness: heavy sweating, dizziness, headache, nausea, muscle cramps, or unusual fatigue can be signs of heat exhaustion. Move to a cool place, drink water, and cool down immediately.

Let's all do our part to stay safe and look out for one another during this period of extreme heat.

The City of Penticton has announced its Integrated Project Delivery (IPD) team for the Fire Hall Headquarters projects, supporting modern emergency response for a growing community.

The project includes a new headquarters at Fire Hall #2 on Dawson Avenue and upgrades to Fire Hall #1 on Nanaimo Avenue.

Delivered through an IPD model, the project entered its validation phase in June 2026 and brings together experienced partners while supporting local trades.

Campfire ban now in effect!

🔥 Heads up! A campfire ban is now in effect in Penticton.

As of noon today, all open burning, including campfires and fireworks, is prohibited.
