Simon has spent the past few days putting together this really beautiful and detailed article about our recent school trip to Wudang. Check it out!
wudang trip 2026 — Okanagan Valley Wudang We just got back from our second school trip to China. Brandi and I and seven students all flew into Shanghai where we quickly met up with kung fu brother Jeff Reid from Wudang Santa Cruz and four students of his. We had a great couple days in Shanghai, visiting the Jing An Temple 静安寺, eating ...
A hilarious dinner with all of us squashed in together at one huge table.
It was a lovely full moon night on the mountain. An evening to remember.
We arrived at the school right at class time, dropped the bags, and the students jumped right in!
Stances in the morning, kicks in the afternoon. On repeat. The secret to progress is doing your kung fu basics.

We visited Taizi Po and Zixiao Gong with our students. Simon was a great tour guide and shared a lot about the history of the temples. We laughed afterwards thinking about how we visited these temples over and over for years but didn't learn a lot of the history until moving away again.
The energy of this place is beyond words for sure, and yet a little context can be really helpful. It's the great negotiation of bringing Wudang to the west, give an opportunity for people to experience it directly, and also provide them with a completely different worldview.
A quiet, rainy afternoon at YuXu Gong, the jade void temple.

A really big part of this trip was visiting the schools of our kung fu brothers, uncles, and the Grandmaster (first picture).
Getting to see their training areas was quite inspiring, we came home with a lot of ideas and dreams!
Looking back, a major theme from this trip was about the steps we are all taking into the future, opening schools and teaching the next generation of students. There are certainly differences in teaching and running a school in the west, but as we chatted with our Kung Fu family, we discovered so many similarities too.
