Tiny Seeds

Tiny Seeds Tiny Seeds is a childcare solution in Penhold, Alberta. It is located in a newly developed and dedicated space of the owner's home.

Tiny Seeds offers full time, Monday to Friday (7:30am-5:30pm) childcare for children 1-6 years of age. Tiny Seeds is an honorable childcare choice and pillar of support for families in the Penhold and surrounding area. We supply the nurturing, supportive and enriching environment which in turn gives families confidence in their choice to support their child's development and discovery. The children of Tiny Seeds will spend their days learning through indoor and outdoor play, relationships, experiments and self-directed lessons. Tiny Seeds offers an inquiry-based learning environment that is child-centred inspired by a teaching philosophy known as Reggio Emilia. Reggio Emilia is an educational philosophy which aligns with Tiny Seed's mission - to provide a safe and nurturing environment that promotes knowledge and inspires a life-long love of learning. In Reggio Emilia, children are the main initiators of the learning process. The interest of the children and their daily experiences will continue to be the main source of the children’s learning.

✨✨ Ahh! I am so honored to be featured as Embolden Private Dayhome Commmunity’s Member of the month! Embolden Private Dayhome Community

Embolden PDC has been such a pillar of support on this journey as a *New* Private Dayhome Provider! At a time when isolation is already at its peak, being a Dayhome Provider can definitely amplify this! It has been SO comforting and reassuring to be a part of this growing community! I have also recently become a Embolden PDC Ambassador in hopes to assist and support other Private Dayhome Providers in my area (and learn, I love learning 😎)!

I am looking forward to continuing to learn and collaborate with many other Dayhome Providers from across Alberta!

What's on the menu for February? 👩‍🍳🍎🧀

We are always working on healthy eating habits! 💚

'Healthy Eating Habits' to us means, being provided well-rounded (All food groups from Canada's Food Guide) meals and snacks at scheduled times throughout the day! Of course everyone has different preferences, favourites and dislikes and although we try to serve foods that are of interest to the littles, we also like to provide opportunities for taste testing and trying new things!

All foods on the menu are offered to the children, they choose what they would like to eat off their plate. They finish when their bodies tell them that they are full! ❤️

Tis’ the season for open ended art projects, snacks on snacks and bringing the snow inside because we have been stuck in a deep freeze for ohhh so long! ❄️ ❄️ ❄️ ❄️ ❄️ ❄️ ❄️ ❄️

December is such a busy month for everyone… But especially our littles! They definitely see and feel the hustle and bustle of the holidays. Add in a little polar vortex and being stuck inside for almost two weeks…

Our solution at Tiny Seeds was to sharpen our mindset and values of Wonder, Connection & Well-Being. Easy conversations around the lunch table, going with the flow, creating art that was sparked from stories we read, singing, dancing, moving and just being together, are only a few of the things we found to help us create plentiful, purposeful days at Tiny Seeds 🎄

Connections 👥

We just installed our book wall (marketplace find!) at perfect height for an easy reach for the littles - safe to say it’s already a hit!

Story time has always been one of my favourite routines with children. There is so much a child can be exposed to through books. Sitting and reading with a child is not only fun for both, it exposes them to new words, new sounds and the rhythm of language in such an engaging way!

We love finding our books secondhand; marketplace, garage sales or the library. Not only is reusing books sustainable for the environment but it’s also much more affordable! Savings = more books us! 😍

There will be lots of reading happening over here at Tiny Seeds!

The Tiny Seeds Environment 🌲

☀️ Calm
☀️ Inviting
☀️ Open-Ended
☀️ Inspiring
☀️ Adaptable
☀️ Free

Creating a designated space in our home where your littles could feel safe, inspired and happy, was of upmost importance to us. As this space continues to mould and grow, we take pride in providing your family with the confidence to ‘let go’ and grant your children the independence that they desire to explore and learn in the way they feel fit.

Why Reggio Emilia?

At Tiny Seeds, our space has been designed with Reggio Emilia learning style at the forefront of its creation. Reggio Emilia, originating in Italy by Loris Malaguzzi, is guided by a handful of concepts; children are capable, natural communicators, and the main collaborators in their learning and development process. The environment, the educator, the community and parental participation all play an important role as well.

Tiny Seeds is confident in the strengths and abilities of our little humans and we will always advocate for this. We strive to give them the space and opportunities to be independent learners. Below are some tools and concepts you will see us using and working on and at Tiny Seeds:

☀️ Growth in independence
☀️ A sense of responsibility
☀️ Practical life skills
☀️ Applying communication skills
☀️ Fine motor & gross motor control
☀️ Open-ended toys
☀️ Authentic art materials & no instructions

As play and freedom are critical contributors in a child’s early years development, Reggio Emilia supports their desire to wonder, explore and imagine without interference or expectations. Through open-ended play, an inspiring environment with opportunities to explore, children naturally become their own teachers and feel that they are in control of what they are learning. A child wants to grow, learn and know.

We hope you can join us this upcoming season! Come play with us at Tiny Seeds 🌱
