Happy Chinese New Year! Gong Hey Fat Choi!

"This post is in honour of my beautiful chinese lineage- from the cantonese and mandarin speaking south china seas, tropical jungles & ancient china- this lineage in my wonderful daughter, sister, mother, pohpoh and greatgrandmothers.

It's amazing to think the lineage we carry is in our bones, blood and energy. Ancestral connection, from womb to womb, starts in our grandmothers who carried us in their womb as they picked plants, sang to trees as they rocked us, to even before. Even our mitochondrial DNA, responsible for energy processing in our body is exclusively inherited from maternal DNA.

We are all our grandmothers with all their magic!

How wonderful, as I plant chilli peppers, I get to focus on the connection as my grandmothers did; when I eat a meal I can imagine it lit up her palate too and I feel joy.

In connecting to your ancestors, focus on inviting joy and celebration into your life, as they did. Imagine how they too enjoyed lifes simple pleasures, laughter, tickling, tasting food (everyone's done this, no matter how rough time got). This joy will bring you closer to feeling full of love.

And with all this love for ancestors, even if you don't know where they were from/what they looked like, just listen, have a relaxed listen to the grass, to the wind, and your ancestors might surprise you with gentle bits of wisdom that come to your senses. :)

To honour Mother Earth is to honour, remember with love, our mother, and grandmothers before and after. The ancestral womb of rebirth into a timeless intertwined connection with nature.

Hope you connect with joy to yours!

Here is a an album of a recent trip to my chinese heritage in Singapore, a tropical equatorial rainforest. When I adventure with my daughter we are in touch with nature everywhere. We stopped to save snails on the path, beetles in the train station, that we burst into tears when we thought it died, but rejoiced when found it alive! We played with ants and native jungle fowl even by the city centre with high end stores a foot away; and admired the birds nest fern! Enjoy"

Highlight last March. Freedom of the pacific tree frogs!
A.E.S believes in the journey of intimacy with nature as learning to be stewards of Earth.
This day showcased that kids can combine designing a game, project build using physical tools & recycled materials, & flow as a family- sharing skills in mixed age groups.

The beauty of this event is that older children get to rekindle their inner joy, catching and sailing frogs is a childhood dream, while the younger ones are scaffolded in being mentored by the older ones in skill building and safety.

Each child has a purpose that makes them feel belonging in the group, a bonding with each other, building joy in nature and creativity, while feeling being gifted a present moment that weaves into the next rhythm of inspiration, work and play.

The other best part, most importantly is that this experience itself teaches respect and harmony with nature where animals are loved, we learn about the pacific tree frog in a way where esch animal has a name and should be personally taken care of, from Frida to Mocha to Minty,

Thr chidren noticed each frog has a unique pattern, and shared it delightedly with each other as they went about the day, the last photo of Cupid frog has a love heart!

The children also innately know each frog has the universal right to be freed (as they wrote in the beginning of the day the last step was to release the frogs).

When there is intimacy in nature, we care about the frogs sensitively and respect them because we share love, not just because we learnt in a text book the words of ecology.

Imagine if all humans were intimate with this pond, this land and Earth, where we treated all elements like our kin? We would watch the pond, listen and listen to the trees, see everything as interconnected and reinvigorate it with life that comes from our intuition and sensitivity. We wouldn't pollute the Earth but strive to feel One with the environment in a way that's rare but needed on this planet today.

My role as a mentor is to guide and facilitate intimacy with nature, so we never forget the names of frogs, trees and rocks as we grow.

Our mission at A.E.S is to grow with nature

Sometimes it feels easy to be forgotten in the crowd, when you are a salmon swimming upstream guiding, swirling others into the unknown. Trusting is hard, when we want to change the world as a independant creature.

But this applies to everyone, young old, broken or whole, precious one, remember your light and celebrate it when the current seems dark & scary.

Love Oneself

My journey of founding Aliannah Earth School is from learning to love and be taught by the love and genuity of the younger generation around me, from embracing being a mum and a play mate & a wisdom keeper. From growing up in a reality where children should be seen and not heard, to witnessing children around me in other families who are not seen and not heard, it propells me into embracing them into nature and allowing them to feel embraced by nature. Its colours, adventures & hues.

But how can I be it all for everyone?

Sometimes when the seasons shift, and I reflect on what I could do better, it feels heavy to start a new year as I have so many dreams and visions of unfolding, but where do I find connections/land/financial abundance? What If i was better at being a modern human and better at social media/sponsership/paperwork?
Ohh the things.

Step by step we will get there, but maybe we are, I am, already here and we just have to trust in our magic inside and believe. And the action gets rolling.

I am amazing at connections, I am incredible at honouring the Earth & paper work alongside, and I am great at social media and sharing what we do! (Which has been so many adventures touching so many families)

And what better way to kick off the new year than celebrating us with fabulous cards and messages we've recieved.

"Thank you for taking care of us and showing us the secrets of Nature. We had the best time Being Time with you and the Group. We would like to come to Nature Camp another time soon! :) this was our favourite camp Ever!"

Gratitude Post!
"I adore every smile that joins us in the summer sun and winter mud! May you always pick up sticks and stones and make really cool things with them like, hats, baskets and insect hotels, that light up the world.
Thank-you to all the families, new and original, that dance with us through the serendipitous seasons, since 2021, from Pender Island to Vancouver." Love Jackie

And a big thank you to Fiona, a mum, and a miniature artist,

who gifted us with a handcrafted teeny tiny perfect picnic of clay food as a gorgeous thank you for last summer playing with her amazing kiddo! Isnt the tiny food so adorable, that it makes you cry little fairy tears of joy.

To celebrate going into our 6th year here are some wonderful comments from our A.E.S families :)

"Hi Jackie,

I wanted to write as summer was wrapping up to thank you for the week of nature camp.

As we talk as a family about the experiences we have been grateful for in the last few months, "Jackie Camp" is among their favourites.

They speak so highly of the magic you bring to each day and of your ability to balance facilitation and free play.  They loved the opportunities to explore and adventure with independence and freedom in the company of kids of different ages, while also being empowered to help make nature tea over the camp stove and to learn new skills like felting.  When asked if they would like to go again, their answer is yes, without equivocation or hesitation - their highest regard.

So thank you for all of this. Also as parents, summer camp is always a bit of black box, and so your pictures are so wonderful to get a glimpse into all the fun - thank you for sharing them.

we look forward to seeing you next year,
tessa"

"What a lovely email. I read it out to Elliot and he spent the day mushroom hunting in the garden. New goal: find a shaggy mane!

We’re looking forward to seeing you in August. Elliot has requested 50 days of nature camp. Haha. I’ll keep my eyes peeled for your email with dates for summer.

Hope you’re having a great sunny Friday and a lovely weekend ahead.

Fiona, Ryan and Elliot"
