Our vision is one of taking children where they are, and extending their learning in a developmentally appropriate way. Our program would be based upon the principals of INQUIRY BASED LEARNING. Positive student-teacher interactions help to guide learning through effective inquiry. Students formulate questions, investigate to find answers, build new understandings, meanings and knowledge, and then communicate their learning to others. The children are actively involved in solving authentic problems within the context of the curriculum and community. Through learning, children increase creativity, independence, and problem-solving skills. The Ontario curriculum is a framework for teaching. The guidelines it provides allows for the application of standards in any context. Combining these standards with the interests of the children, and their inborn curiosity, allows for a program tailored by individuals and groups. The children determine the subject matter, while the teacher provides opportunities for them to extend their understanding. The environment, be that the classroom, the community, outdoor spaces, the materials, or the home, are used to construct and facilitate learning. Dramatization is application of knowledge. The community is an outlet for extension. The child is the guide. Every child has the right to an education. In our vision, every child would have the opportunity to learn.
