The Parksville Tutoring Program is a Community Adult Literacy Program. We match volunteer tutors with adult learners working on English, Math, computers, etc.

The Tutoring Program has one full-time coordinator and approximately 50 volunteer tutors. We are supported by a Work BC office, known as the Career Centre, that has 17 employees. We have a partnership with Vancouver Island University that has been in place since 2001. We receive funding from the government of British Columbia, and CVIJOBS. We are a CALP (Community Adult Literacy Program) that is connected to Decoda Literacy Solutions.

Our year is coming to its last couple months. Thank you to all our wonderful volunteer tutors and dedicated students for a fabulous year of learning. 🌠 The Career Centre - Parksville is open in the summer so tutoring pairs and our ESL groups will still be meeting. Our coordinator will be on holiday for July and returning August 17. We hope you have a great summer! See you soon! ⛱️🌞

Learning a new language can take a lot of effort, but there are a few things that you can do to achieve better fluency. We often tell our students to take time each day to only use your new language. Here's a video from Olly Richards, talking about how Jodie Foster learned French. Good tips!

It's National Volunteer Week, and The Tutoring Program would like to thank all our wonderful volunteers for sharing their skills and time. 💜 From one-on-one tutors, to group facilitators, to the Career Centre - Parksville board, and PQALS board, we couldn't be here, to help our adult learners, without you.
