Recreation NL was pleased to meet with the Honourable Minister Mike Goosney alongside our Executive Director, Steve Martin, and Recreation NL Treasurer Carla Sullivan to discuss key challenges and opportunities within the recreation sector.

The conversation focused on community capacity, aging recreation infrastructure, the role of recreation facilities in emergency preparedness, and rising energy costs for arenas across Newfoundland and Labrador.

Investing in recreation means investing in healthier, safer, and more resilient communities. We look forward to continuing these important conversations to support recreation opportunities for communities across our province!

He has supported athletes and teams through multiple World Cups, World Championships, and Olympic and Paralympic Games, enabling them to thrive in high-stakes situations.

Joe is committed to helping individuals and organizations achieve optimal performance and well-being.

A great new program from the City of Mount Pearl!

Their new Adaptive Swim Lessons program provides personalized, one-on-one swim instruction for participants of all ages and abilities, creating a supportive and inclusive environment for learning and building confidence in the water. 💙

Our new Adaptive Swim Lessons offer one-on-one instruction for swimmers of all ages and abilities. Each session is tailored to the participant’s unique needs, abilities, goals and learning style, creating an inclusive and supportive environment.

📅 Registration is now open for Mount Pearl residents and opens October 7 at 5 PM for non-residents.

🧡 National Day for Truth and Reconciliation

Recreation Newfoundland and Labrador’s office will be closed on Wednesday, September 30, in recognition of the National Day for Truth and Reconciliation.

This day honours the children who never returned home from residential schools, Survivors, their families and communities, and those who continue to carry the impacts of the residential school system.

We encourage our staff, members, and communities to take time to listen, learn, reflect, and consider our collective responsibility to reconciliation.

Our office will reopen on Thursday, October 1.

Last week, we were pleased to partner with Quality of Care NL for a Healthy Discussions session exploring what it means to build a healthier, more connected community.

The conversation looked at the role that recreation, physical activity, nutrition and community supports play in our overall health and well-being, as well as the resources and opportunities available in our communities to help us be active, eat well and connect with others.
