Our School Council chairperson Brad Kerrivan and parent representative Jennifer Penney will be attending a meeting with NLESD personnel on Wednesday morning regarding return to school plans for September. Good Morning Parents/Guardians in the OPE Community,

As of yesterday, we were made aware of a proposed location for a Tim Horton’s drive-through to be developed on the corner of Sgt Donald Lucas Drive and Topsail Road. As parents of young elementary children attending OPE, we are organizing a group to get involved and discuss the potential safety and logistical concerns we have surrounding this development, which will stretch further down Topsail Road, containing another two-story commercial building, and more than 150 parking spaces in total.

If you would like to be added to the communication emails, or would like to assist in our efforts to seek and share important information to local residents and members of the OPE community, please send an email to Concerned Parents of OPE at [email protected] to be added to our mailing list.

Concerned Parents of OPE

Dear parents/guardians of Octagon Pond Elementary,

It has come to our attention that the town has received an application for a restaurant with a drive-thru to be located at the corner of Sgt Donald Lucas Drive and Topsail Road. As a school council, we have major concerns about this proposal:

- Traffic coming into and out of the school zone is already congested, especially at key times of the day - this would certainly increase traffic and cause further congestion.

- Increased traffic leads to major safety issues for our children walking to school.

If you have concerns about this proposal, we urge you to contact the town before Friday, June 28, 2019. Comments should be sent to Cynthia Hulan at 782-3802 or [email protected].

We will be “Cool For Autism” on Tuesday . Students and staff are invited to wear their sunglasses. All donations will be given to our local 😎😎😎

We are excited to ‘ROCK OUR SOCKS’ on Thursday to support World Down Syndrome Day! Students are asked to bring $2 to support the Newfoundland & Labrador Down Syndrome Society.

Some members of our school council had a great afternoon judging the Just Dance competition at our school yesterday! What a fabulous idea to get the kids moving and have some fun at the same time. They all did a great job!

It’s been fun celebrating our OPE rockstars this week! We hope you enjoy your dessert buffet today!❤️❤️❤️
