The National Day for Truth and Reconciliation, also known as Orange Shirt Day, honours Residential School Survivors, those who never returned home, and the families and communities that continue to be impacted by the Residential School system.
The Orange Shirt symbolizes the loss of culture, freedom, and self-esteem that many Indigenous children experienced. This day reminds us that and encourages meaningful conversations, learning, and most importantly, action.
A collection of classroom resources is available through the National Centre for Truth and Reconciliation to support education, reflection, and action in schools and communities. Visit https://nctr.ca.
