Grad student engagement is the lifeblood of the GSA. We want to see more representation on our council from all grad departments, and collaborate with professional programs in the coming year to put on awesome workshops.

Carleton University has over 50 graduate programs. Each of these programs has a seat on council, the legislative authority of the GSA. Grads United wants to ensure that every department is represented and has a say.

Grads United supports working with other grad member locals to negotiate better health plan deals for our membership! We want the best healthcare for the best price.

International students are facing the highest tuition fee increases at Carleton University. They pay more than three times the amount of tuition as domestic students! This differential fee structure puts post-secondary education out of reach for many students. The provincial government refuses to put a cap that international student fee increases. Grads United calls on Carleton and the provincial government to stop treating international students as cash cows. We will work with students and allies to help fight the discriminatory differential fee system.

Grads United is a strong voice for graduate students on Carleton campus. We believe in a campus that is equitable, safe, and accessible to Carleton’s diverse graduate student population.

Graduate students face unique challenges and barriers; tuition fees, student debt, lack of research funding, cuts to library journals, support for international students, and mental health are all areas that we prioritize.

Graduate students are the strongest when working with campus and community partners and with graduate and undergraduate students across the country. Working together, we can reduce health plan costs and seek to make an impact on governments at all levels to increase funding for public post-secondary education.

Grads United prioritizes defending the interests of all students, including racialized and Muslim students, women and LGBTQI+ students and those struggling as a result of tuition fee increases and privatization of education. We will establish community voices within the Graduate Students’ Association for international, Indigenous and marginalized students at Carleton.

Grads United will defend the interests of graduate students at the Board of Governors, Senate, in meetings with Carleton senior management and all levels of government and at GSA Council.
