Why the Afternoon Program??

This program is designed for children aged 2 to 5 years and runs twice a week on Tuesday and Thursday afternoons from 12:30pm to 3:30pm.

With a small group of just 10 children and a 1 to 5 teacher to child ratio, educators are able to offer more personalized attention and meaningful learning experiences. The smaller setting allows for engaging, hands-on activities such as baking, creative projects, and collaborative play that encourage independence, problem-solving, and confidence.

The afternoon schedule provides a gentle transition for children who are beginning to move away from daytime naps, helping them build stamina and adapt to a routine that supports future school success. This program offers a supportive and nurturing step toward kindergarten readiness, while still honoring the importance of play and exploration.

At NGCNS early literacy isn’t just a priority, it’s part of our everyday rhythm 📚!

Our space is filled with a rich collection of books that we thoughtfully rotate each week. Books are always within reach during free play, allowing children to explore stories independently.

We also weave reading into transitions by placing books at snack tables, creating meaningful moments that encourage self-directed reading.

Each day ends with a special 10-15 minute story time, where educators bring stories to life through read-alouds, felt stories, finger plays, and poems.

This week we've been enjoying science at circle time with a focus on colour mixing. Today, we talked a lot about the primary colors and how they make secondary colors. It's great to be reminded how exciting and magical it is when two colours, mix to create something new!!! If only we could all experience the world through a 3-4 year old lense! 🎊🥳😳
