A Feast Born in a Time of Division
Did you know that the Feast of the Visitation was established by Pope Urban VI in 1389 to help end the Great Schism? He called upon the intercession of Mary to bring unity back to a fractured world.
Centuries later, this day remains a powerful reminder of what happens when we bring Christ into our encounters. When Mary entered Elizabeth’s home, division fell away, a prophet leaped for joy in the womb, and the beautiful prayer of the Magnificat was given to the world.
Let’s celebrate today by bringing Christ’s peace and charity to those around us.

In Part 1, we looked at Joseph Ratzinger before he became pope.
But what happened after his election?
Contrary to the popular narrative, Benedict XVI did not repudiate Vatican II. He spent his pontificate defending it.
He continued ecumenical dialogue, organized the 2011 Assisi gathering, defended Vatican II’s teaching on religious liberty, affirmed the legitimacy of the Novus Ordo, and required acceptance of Vatican II as a condition for full reconciliation with the SSPX.
Many Catholics remember Benedict XVI as the pope of tradition.
The historical question is whether he was a critic of the post-conciliar project—or one of its most important defenders.

Many today view as the “traditionalist pope.”
But before he became pope, was not a critic of . He was one of its theological experts and would spend the rest of his life defending the Council’s legitimacy and interpretation.
Perhaps his most influential contribution was the “ ”—the argument that Vatican II must be read in continuity with the Church’s prior teaching rather than as a rupture.
Whether that project succeeded is one of the most important questions in modern Catholic history.
Part 2 examines what Benedict did as pope.

Joan of Arc was a teenager when she answered God’s call.
That’s one reason children need stories of saints. They learn that holiness isn’t something that starts when you’re older. It starts when you say yes.
Sometimes the bravest thing a child can do is tell the truth, pray when it’s hard, or trust God one more time.
St. Joan of Arc, pray for our children.

For most of Catholic history, Just War theory was taught as a real moral category.
Not every war was considered righteous. But some wars were understood to be morally permissible under strict conditions.
Now many Catholics hear modern language that sounds far more absolute.
That shift creates real questions for ordinary believers trying to understand continuity, development, and the meaning of peace in a modern world.

On July 1st, the Catholic world may witness episcopal consecrations without papal approval.
Most discussions focus on the act itself.
Far fewer discuss the circumstances that convinced priests, seminarians, and faithful across the world that such an extraordinary step had become necessary.
Throughout Church history, those who raised warnings during periods of confusion were rarely praised in the moment. They were criticized, misunderstood, and often accused of creating division.
Yet history has a way of forcing later generations to revisit uncomfortable questions.
Were they preserving something essential?
Or were they causing unnecessary conflict?
Supporters of these consecrations believe the issue is not rebellion against the papacy, but fidelity to the Catholic Faith during an unprecedented crisis. They argue that authority exists for the salvation of souls and the preservation of what the Church has always taught.
Whether one agrees or disagrees, these events are too significant to dismiss with slogans.
If these consecrations take place, future Catholics may spend less time asking whether they happened and more time asking why they happened.
What do you think history will say about this moment?
If westerners knew Mosques are also built for the purpose of being military outposts, where they keep ammo, weapons, and train people for armed Jihad, would they still let them build them?

People often reveal their priorities by repetition.
When Catholics compare older Vatican documents to modern ones, many notice a shift in vocabulary before they ever notice a shift in theology.
Pascendi sounds like a Church defending revealed truth against doctrinal collapse.
Modern documents often sound like humanity trying to govern itself more ethically.
That tension is one reason many Catholics feel spiritually disoriented today.

History is strange.
One pastry celebrates a military victory.
One drink was once associated with “outsiders” and the Islamic world.
And now both are consumed by Catholic parents reheating coffee for the third time while someone argues about breakfast plates.
Civilizations rise and fall.
Toddlers remain undefeated.
