November is COPD Awareness Month, a time to raise awareness about a disease that affects more than two million Canadians.
Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease (COPD) is a treatable, progressive lung disease that makes it harder to breathe over time. Itâs one of the leading causes of hospitalization in Canada, and itâs estimated that up to a million more people may be living with COPD without knowing it.
Early detection and management can make a big difference. If you or someone you love experiences shortness of breath, a persistent cough or frequent chest infections, talk to your health-care provider and get your lungs checked.

We're in the thick of wildfire season, and even if you're nowhere near the flames, the air around you might not be safe to breathe.
Wildfire smoke can raise the level of fine particles in the air, impacting your healthâespecially if you live with a chronic lung condition.
The Air Quality Health Index (AQHI) rates air pollution on a scale from 1 to 10+. The higher the number, the greater the health risk. For people with lung disease, even a score of 4 can trigger symptoms.
Check your local AQHI regularly and take steps to protect your lungs. Be sure to check out our recent Heatwaves and Hazy Skies webinar on our YouTube channel:
