🎉 Congratulations to Nicholas Séguin, a 5th-year PhD student at the University of Ottawa School of Music, on receiving a Faculty of Arts Excellence in Studies Award! 👏

Presented annually by the Faculty of Arts, these awards recognize students whose outstanding academic achievements, research excellence, and student engagement distinguish them among their peers.

Nicholas is one of only twelve recipients selected from a Faculty of more than 5,000 students — a well-deserved recognition of his exceptional work and dedication. 🌟

2026 NICOLE-SÉNÉCAL Emerging Artist Award

The School of Music is pleased to announce that the winner of the 2026 Nicole-Sénécal Emerging Artist Award is percussionist Nathaniel Mears, a student of Prof. Andrew Harris. This award includes a $10,000 scholarship as well as a recital at Ottawa Chamberfest, which will take place on July 28, 2026.

Congratulations, Nate — we are very proud of you! We would also like to recognize all participants; the level of artistry on display was truly exceptional, as was the dedication of the jury members, who had the delicate task of choosing a winner.

Please come and support him at his concert on July 28, 2026!

We extend our heartfelt thanks to Ms. Sénécal for her generous support, which helps make countless dreams come true.

L’École de musique est heureuse d’annoncer que le percussionniste Nathaniel Mears, étudiant du professeur Andrew Harris, est le lauréat du Prix Nicole-Sénécal 2026. Ce prix consiste d’une bourse de 10 000 $ ainsi que d’un récital au Ottawa Chamberfest, qui aura lieu le 28 juillet 2026.

Félicitations, Nate — nous sommes très fiers de toi ! Nous souhaitons également saluer l’ensemble des participant.e.s : le niveau artistique était tout simplement remarquable, tout comme l’engagement des membres du jury, qui ont eu la délicate tâche de trancher.

Venez nombreux le soutenir lors de son concert le 28 juillet 2026 !

Félicitations à Amy Brandon (M.Mus. 2016) pour son prix Juno 2026 de la meilleure composition classique ! Amy est la première diplômée de l’Université d’Ottawa à recevoir cette distinction. Elle a été étudiante de John Armstrong.

We had the pleasure of welcoming Professor Nelson Lee (McGill’s ), who led an inspiring masterclass and delivered a superb performance of Korngold’s Piano Quintet this weekend.

Nous avons eu le plaisir d’accueillir Nelson Lee de (McGill), qui a dirigé une classe de maître inspirante et offert une interprétation remarquable du Quintette avec piano de Korngold ce week-end.

Jeudi à 12h nous aurons l’incroyable honneur d’accueillir Marc-André Hamelin pour une classe de maître avec nos étudiants en piano. Un grand merci à Chamberfest pour cette opportunité!
