As usual, Kelly Hill has some fascinating data about workers in the arts and cultural sector in Canada. Can’t believe we will be losing him to retirement soon! This article focuses on holding multiple jobs. Not surprisingly, arts and culture workers are twice as likely to have multiple jobs; women are more likely than men to hold multiple jobs; and the proportion of workers who hold multiple jobs has increased since the beginning of the pandemic in 2020.

Vertical bars are the average heart rates (expressed as % of age-predicted max HR) for each of the 47 of the drummers I’ve monitored during live shows for whom HR data was available (we didn't get it from some for various reasons).

The solid horizontal line represents the average show HR across all 47 drummers (79% HRmax).

The dotted horizontal line represents the average HR of professional soccer players recorded during competitive match play (86 %maxHR: Torreño et al., 2016).

The drummers’ heart rates during live shows were comparable to pro soccer players during competitive play! 🤯
