Kanata Academy is a private school located west end of Ottawa, 500 yds south of the Canadian Tire Centre. The preschool-Grade 12 school, established in 1996, features small class sizes and daily communication between teachers and parents. The owners, Kevin and Shannon Rattray, 4 children enrolled at the school, so they have a vested interest in the quality of education that is offered.

Meet Daniel, Music Teacher at Kanata Academy!

Now entering his third year at Kanata Academy, Daniel brings both a strong educational background and a deep passion for music into the classroom. After earning an Honours Bachelor of Arts and Bachelor of Education from the University of Ottawa, he went on to found The Spark Music Academy, a studio focused on music instruction, performance coaching, and recording.

Through years of teaching students of all ages and skill levels, he has helped aspiring musicians build confidence, develop their talents, and discover the joy of playing and performing music.

At Kanata Academy, he is passionate about creating a dynamic and creative learning environment where students are encouraged to express themselves, explore new skills, and grow through music.

Meet Jessica, French Preschool Teacher at Kanata Academy!

Originally from Montreal and now based in Ottawa, Jessica is a registered Early Childhood Educator and graduate of Algonquin College. In the preschool classroom, she creates a nurturing and engaging environment while incorporating French into everyday learning through an immersive approach.

She believes every child should feel respected, supported, and encouraged to grow with confidence. In her classroom, learning is rooted in connection, curiosity, and helping every child shine.

Outside of school, she enjoys horseback riding, hiking, and camping, and volunteers with the Therapeutic Riding Association of Ottawa-Carleton, supporting children and adults with diverse needs.

Meet Alex Fillipoff, Grades 9–12 Teacher at Kanata Academy.

Alex is part of our high school team as a humanities teacher, bringing a strong academic background in History and Religious Studies from St. Francis Xavier University, along with a Bachelor of Education from Queen’s University.

Passionate about learning, Alex is committed to helping students think critically, stay engaged, and build the skills they need to navigate real-world challenges with confidence.

He brings a thoughtful, engaging approach to the classroom that encourages students to think deeply and connect their learning to the world around them.
