It’s Local Food Week and we’re celebrating with a new report - "Growing Local: Strengthening School Food Programs with Ontario Food" - facilitated by Sustain, produced by Wilton Consulting Group, and funded by Ontario Greenbelt and the Schad Foundation! 🌱🥕
The report highlights that school food programs could help drive demand for Ontario-grown food, potentially opening up a $200 million annual market. Providing over 140 million meals and snacks to 1 million+ students across the province every year, Ontario’s Student Nutrition Programs are not only essential to students’ health and learning, but they are also a potentially meaningful source of economic stability for local farmers.

The National Farmers Union / L'Union nationale des fermiers has released a new report, 'Fair Food Prices? The Declining Farmers’ Share and Food Inflation'
“This report identifies the causes of food price inflation by examining the farmers’ share of retail food prices in relation to consumer inflation,” the NFU explains. “The evidence reveals that farmers have experienced stagnating prices for their products while consumer prices have increased. Ultimately, corporate profiteering is the primary reason for the widening gap between the farmers’ share and the grocery sticker price.”
