Civic hospital construction questions and costs "an abomination." Ottawa taxpayers to possibly be paying 3x the estimated cost in taxes. Source: CFRA Morning Rush: Civic hospital construction questions. Bill Carroll from The Morning Rush shared his thoughts on questions over the construction timeline and costs of the Ottawa hospital's new civic campus. Thanks to the many Reimagine Ottawa volunteers who assisted today at the Great Glebe Garage Sale 2026 and to Angela Keller-Herzog, for donating her front lawn every year for our event. Angela Keller-Herzog - OttawaCentre Thank you to those who donated items. Thank-you, we very much appreciated the multiple hands, eyes, salesmanship AND those who carted stuff away today at/from the GGGS with a ‘bumper’ year of goods. Diane, our ‘banker’ will report back and I’ll let you know with what we’re replenishing our ‘war chest’.
Enjoy your well-deserved evening!
Good night.

But we paved over her namesake park -"Queen Juliana Park" - for a parking garage. Sad.

If you haven't seen Queen Juliana Park recently, here it is with a monstrous garage built on the land once designated as a WWII veteran's memorial.

Landsdowne Great Lawn Gone! Recent photos show the destruction. No more City Folk here?
Election 2026. We believe residents deserve to be at the centre of Ottawa’s decision-making processes. Over the past two decades, the city has reduced genuine public engagement to information sessions held after critical decisions have been made. The result has been city support for a new hospital taking 60 acres from the Experimental Farm, an abysmal LRT, the suspect Tewin development that expanded the city boundary, and the financially shaky Lansdowne project — all of which generated significant citizen opposition. That’s four too many poor development decisions. Decisions like these affect how we get around in our city, the neighbourhoods we live in, and the quality of our green spaces, roads and our lives in Ottawa.
Let’s take this October election as our opportunity to elect a few more citizen-friendly members to council. We hope you will respond to this email if you are able to support our effort in any way, large or small.
Great Glebe Garage Sale, May 23
We will be selling again at 166 Glebe Ave. (at Lyon). Anything you have to donate except clothing would be hugely appreciated. Call Angela (613-237-0093) to arrange a drop off. If you don’t reach her, leave a message and drop off your contributions in front of her garage at 48 Riverdale Ave. She’ll secure them as soon as she returns.
OR deliver them on the 23d as early as possible to our table.
Don’t forget to put price stickers on your donations!
If you enjoy the grand chaos of the sale, we are still seeking a few volunteers to help on the day - - call Richard if you can take a shift (613-808-9719). Or just drop by to say hello!

Sad news to report. One of our Reimagine volunteers has passed away. Walter Jack Hendelman Obituary. It is with profound sadness that we announce that Walter Hendelman passed away after a very brief illness on Friday, January 30th, 2026, at age 88. Son of the late Goldie and Harry Hendelman of Montreal. Loving husband the late Teena Hendelman (Garelick), and pre-deceased by daughter Devra (Grant Rice) of Kelowna. Walter is survived by daughter Lisanne and sister Ruth Rohrlick of Montreal. Fondly remembered by his many nieces and nephews across the continent, and countless friends from so many walks of life.
Born in Montreal, Walter graduated from McGill University with Psychology and Medical degrees. He conducted research at New York and in Pasadena before joining the University of Ottawa Faculty of Medicine. He continued his research, and later focused on teaching neuroanatomy, publishing several textbooks including the “Atlas of Functional Neuroanatomy”. He retired from the University of Ottawa as an Emeritus Professor.
Community advocacy and volunteerism was another important aspect of his life. Along with Teena, he co-founded the Ottawa Reconstructionist Havurah (now Or Haneshamah.) He volunteered with Canadian Friends of Beth Hatefutsoth, AJA 50+, and was a longtime docent at the Canadian Museum of History.
Walter loved music, singing in a choir, and playing saxophone and recorder. In recent years, he developed a passion for the visual arts, especially pottery. He was a good friend to so many, always devoted and caring and very active socially. He leaves a legacy of good deeds, community involvement, generosity and kindness.
A funeral service will be held at 1:00pm on Tuesday, February 3, 2026, at the Jewish Memorial Chapel, 1771 Cuba Avenue, Ottawa. Interment will follow at Jewish Memorial Gardens, 6549 Herberts Corners Road, Greely.
Shiva to follow at the Central Chapel of Hulse, Playfair & McGarry, 315 McLeod Street on Tuesday and Wednesday from 7:00pm to 9:00 pm, with services at 7:30pm and Thursday from 2pm to 4 pm.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Teena and Walter Hendelman Family Fund at the Ottawa Jewish Community Foundation, or to the Devra Hendelman Memorial Fund at the Ottawa Community Foundation or to the charity of your choice.
