This spring we are again offering the afternoon Basic Training course in-person as well as an evening course via Zoom. Both courses begin Monday, March 9th, 2026 and run weekly until May 11th 2026 (including Easter Monday). EARLY BIRD registration discount ends tomorrow!
This post is a reminder that our early bird registration rate ($150) for the fall basic training program expires tomorrow. Please note that registration remains available at the regular rate of $175 until Sunday September 14th based on available space. The evening session of the Basic Training course is almost full. We do have spaces in the afternoon course offered in-person at St. Paul's Presbyterian Church.

In this session, Elspeth MacEwan, community psychiatrist and hospice volunteer, will lead a session called Sacred Conversations: 7000 Ways to Pray. This workshop will explore an approach focusing on compassion, empathy and journeying with patients as they search for meaning in their suffering. This workshop will focus on the process of healing through loss or transition, with a discussion of grief work in different cultures and a multi faith framework for prayer. At this session, Roshene Lawson, Clinical Chaplain with Bruyère Continuing Care at St. Vincent Hospital in Ottawa, leads a session called A Pastoral Response to the Challenges of MAiD. This workshop will explore an approach focusing on compassion, empathy and journeying with patients as they search for meaning in their suffering. The presentation will not condone or condemn MAiD as a treatment option.
