Are you living with progressive multiple sclerosis? Do you experience challenges with cognition in daily life?

Researchers at the University of Ottawa are looking at the potential effects of task-based cognitive training paired with non-invasive brain stimulation, no brain stimulation, and/or exercise for people living with progressive multiple sclerosis (MS).

We are looking for volunteers with progressive MS who are over 18 years of age and have trouble with cognition in everyday life. The study will involve six testing visits (~1-2 hours each), 3 goal setting visits (~1.5 hours each) and up to 24 training visits (~1.5 hours each).

The training visits will follow a schedule of 3 sessions per week for 8 weeks. Testing visits will take place at the University of Ottawa (200 Lees Avenue, Ottawa) and the University of Québec (283 Boulevard Alexandre-Taché, Gatineau). Training sessions will take place at the University of Ottawa (200 Lees Avenue, Ottawa). The study is available in English only.

The aim of the study is to better understand how future supports can more effectively assist MS care partners. We are seeking volunteers who would like to partake in a brief online or postal survey about the supports they use in their caregiving role. In-person interviews are also available to those living in Eastern Ontario. Eligible participants must be: 1) over 18 years of age, 2) able to complete a series of questionnaires in English, 3) reside in Canada. We are in the final wave of recruitment for our RAAMP Study!

This study aims to explore different pieces of exercise equipment usage for people with MS who use wheelchairs. This study involves 4 visits to the University of Ottawa (roughly a week apart) and participants will be compensated $200 for their time!

Former lab member and frequent collaborator Afolasade Fakolade was featured in the MS Society of Canada March 2022 Newsletter! Below is the full story:

"For International Day for Women and Girls in Science, Dr. Afolasade Fakolade, Assistant Professor of Rehabilitation at Queen’s University, was featured on the MS Society blog. From a young age, Dr. Fakolade knew that she wanted to be a scientist or an engineer, as she loved building and fixing things. After witnessing the role physiotherapy played in her father’s recovery from surgery, she was inspired to study physiotherapy. After a few years of clinical practice, she proceeded to obtain her Master’s degree in Neurorehabilitation at Cardiff University, Wales. As part of her training, she was involved in a research study examining the effects of physical activity and neurofeedback on persons with neurodegenerative conditions.

[“My general research interests focus on supporting full participation in health promoting behaviours, particularly physical activity, among persons with advanced neurological disabilities, their family, and caregivers.
