Somewhere between these two videos we learned the difference between “going for a hike” and “mountaineering.”

We’re incredibly proud of what our team accomplished, and we’re still fundraising for AKHRI Mothers & Daughters to support literacy education for women and girls in Somaliland.

“should we get food?”
“sure but where?”

somehow that one airport conversation turned into us hiking Mount Kenya on 3 hours of sleep, surviving altitude, slipping every 12 business minutes, waking up at ungodly hours, questioning every life decision we’d ever made… and finally making it to Diani Beach to recover 🌴😭

20 photos somehow still aren’t enough to capture what this experience really felt like, but here’s a glimpse of the AKHRI team taking on Mount Kenya 🏔️🤍

This climb came with altitude sickness, exhaustion, stomach issues, slipping down muddy trails, freezing early mornings, and summit pushes that started long before sunrise. There were constant cries of “pole pole” (“slowly slowly”) while somehow still being marched up the mountain at alarming speeds.

But beyond the difficult moments, this experience was filled with resilience, community, laughter, and some of the most beautiful views and memories imaginable. Every step reminded us why this initiative matters so deeply.

Together, we’ve raised over $12,000 to support literacy education initiatives for women and girls in Somaliland through AKHRI Mothers & Daughters, and the fundraiser is still open. The support received so far has been genuinely incredible, and every donation or share continues to make a real difference 🤍

Before the polished recap posts, here’s a little glimpse into what the hike actually felt like.

Thin air, freezing mornings, sore legs, med checks, inside jokes, and one very unforgettable mountain.

This hike challenged every single one of us in different ways, but getting to experience it alongside such an incredible team made every brutal step worth it.

Thank you to everyone supporting the fundraiser and following the journey so far. More to come soon, including updates on the impact this climb is helping support ⛰️
