✨Biography

Maria is a marketing communications leader and brand strategist with over 18 years of experience crafting strategies, telling organizations' stories and building teams to fuel a cultural of growth and lasting impact. With an MBA in Marketing and an MA in Communications, she believes the real magic happens where these two fields overlap. This could not be truer in the age of AI. Her career has spanned education, consumer goods, freelance, financial services and more. As a proud Telfer and Faculty of Arts Alumna, a former TA, RA and now returning uOttawa employee, Maria knows this place is something truly special.

✨ Description of the talk

Staying true to your brand, while continuously evolving: Lessons in communications applied to my journey. Communication is an ever-evolving field. It seems intuitive, like anyone can do it, but the experts know it's a craft, built on insight, passion, discernment, trial and error and willingess to adapt. The same principles apply to building a career and personal brand. In this talk, I’ll share key lessons from my own journey navigating the ever-changing world of communications ,and the interesting parallels that can be made between how we shape our stories as professionals and how we shape them as people.

Nous sommes ravis d'accueillir Prof. Nkoudou en tant que professeur adjoint en communication organisationnelle au Département de communication.

Spécialiste des humanités numériques, de la communication organisationnelle et de l'éthique de l'intelligence artificielle, Ses travaux s’inscrivent à l’intersection de la communication organisationnelle, de l’intelligence artificielle responsable, des humanités numériques et des études décoloniales. Il s’intéresse particulièrement aux mutations des organisations à l’ère du numérique, à la gouvernance des données, aux algorithmes de recommandation, ainsi qu’aux enjeux d’appropriation de l’IA au sein des organisations.

Ses recherches portent également sur les dynamiques de technocolonialité, la justice cognitive, les communs numériques et les pratiques de médiation des savoirs. Il est reconnu pour son engagement en faveur de la science ouverte et du développement local durable, notamment à travers des initiatives comme le Mboalab.

We are thrilled to welcome Thomas Mboa as a Assistant Professor in Organizational Communication at the Department of Communication

His work lies at the intersection of organizational communication, responsible artificial intelligence, digital humanities, and decolonial studies. He is particularly interested in the transformations of organizations in the digital age, data governance, recommendation algorithms, and the challenges surrounding the appropriation of AI within organizations.

His research also explores the dynamics of technocoloniality, cognitive justice, digital commons, and knowledge mediation practices. He is recognized for his strong commitment to open science and sustainable local development, notably through initiatives such as Mboalab.
