Canada’s international student landscape just hit its biggest turning point in 20 years

🛑 64% Drop in brand-new incoming international students.
📉 124,000 fewer total international students on campus over the last two years.
🏫 75% Nosedive in new international enrollment at public colleges.
📍 36% Reduction in Ontario’s total international student footprint.
Tight federal caps limiting new arrivals to 155,000, combined with stricter rules on who qualifies for a post-grad work visa (PGWP), have caused global applicants to pivot to new academic hubs
While the move successfully cools local housing markets, it’s forcing schools across the country to rapidly restructure their budgets.
