🎒 Less than two weeks to go! ☀️

Somehow, we’ve reached that point in August where summer is still very much happening… but September 1 is starting to feel really close! 😳

If you haven’t started yet, this might be the week to check a few things off the back-to-school list — backpacks, lunch bags, indoor shoes, supplies and all those other little things that seem to multiply as the first day gets closer.

And maybe — maybe — start nudging those summer bedtimes in the right direction. 😂

But we’re not wishing summer away just yet! There’s lots happening around Ottawa this weekend:

🎡 Capital Fair — The fair wraps up this weekend, August 21–23, with midway rides, animals, entertainment and plenty of family fun.

🇬🇷 Ottawa GreekFest — Back for its second weekend August 20–23, with Greek food, live music, dancing and free admission.

🍛 Indian Food Festival of Ottawa — August 21–23 at Clarke Fields Park in Barrhaven, with food, music, cultural performances, family activities and free admission.

🌿 Festival of the Wild Child — Saturday, August 22 at High Lonesome Nature Reserve. A nature-filled family day with scavenger hunts, walks, workshops and hands-on outdoor activities.

📅 And one more date for the calendar: Our first TFES School Council meeting of the new school year is Tuesday, September 8 at 6:45 p.m. in the school library.

Whether you’ve been involved before or you’re just curious about what Council does, we’d love to see some new faces this year. 💙

Hello,

​We are in urgent need of before-school help starting in two weeks when school begins! Both my wife and I leave for work at 6:30 AM, and have zero morning coverage to ensure we get to work on time. We are looking for before-school care for our daughter.

​Details:

​Drop-off Time: Around 6:45 AM (Monday–Friday).

​School: Terry Fox Elementary School.

​The Need: Someone local who can watch her in the morning and ensure she gets to school safely—either by taking her along with your kids, letting her hop on the school bus with your family, or driving her.

​Routine: She will arrive fully dressed, breakfast completed or provided, and packed with all her school gear ready to go.

​Ideally, we are looking for a local family with kids attending Terry Fox ES or a local home daycare/caregiver in the neighborhood who has space for an early morning drop-off.

​If you have room or know of anyone in the area who might be able to help us out, please send me a direct message with your rates and location! We appreciate any leads or shares.

☀️ Summer’s still going strong… but the back-to-school countdown is officially on! 🎒

We’re already halfway through August (how did that happen?!), and with the first day of school getting closer, now might be a good time to start tackling a few of those back-to-school jobs — checking backpacks and lunch bags, picking up supplies, and maybe even thinking about getting those bedtime routines back on track. 😉

But there’s still lots of summer left to enjoy! If you’re looking for something to do with the family this week or weekend, here are a few ideas:

🎡 The Capital Fair — Opens Friday, August 14 and runs through August 23, with midway rides, entertainment and more.

🇬🇷 Ottawa Greek Festival — August 13–23. Admission is free, with Greek food, music, dancing and cultural activities.

🧄 Carp Garlic Festival — August 15 & 16. A free weekend of food, music, local vendors and, of course… lots and lots of garlic!

🎪 Russell Fair — August 13–16, with four days of agricultural and family entertainment.

And while you’re marking up the September calendar, save Tuesday, September 8 for the first TFES School Council meeting of the year. New faces and new ideas are always welcome — you don’t need any previous Council experience to get involved. 💙

🌞 Hello August!

It's hard to believe we're already into August! We hope everyone is enjoying a summer filled with family time, adventures, camps, vacations, and a little time to simply relax.

As you soak up the rest of summer, here's a friendly reminder that this year the first day of school is Tuesday, September 1 — before Labour Day! 📚✏️

If you have a summer bucket list, now's the perfect time to check off those last few adventures, schedule those back-to-school appointments, and start thinking about school supplies.

There's still plenty of summer left to enjoy, so make the most of every sunny day! ☀️
