The CMS is excited to share that all 6 members of Math Team Canada won medals at the 67th International Mathematical Olympiad this week, placing Canada 13th out of a total of 117 countries! Congratulations to the team, and thank you to the team leaders, trainers, volunteers, committee members who supported them. A special thank you to Jane Street for sponsoring Math Team Canada.

Congratulations to Dr. Jacob Tsimerman (University of Toronto) for receiving the 2026 Fields Medal! Dr. Tsimerman is the first Canada-based mathematician to receive this award, marking a milestone in Canadian mathematics.

The CMS is proud to announce that it will host the 2027 Applied Inverse Problems Conference in Calgary on behalf of the Inverse Problems International Association, from August 1 -6 2027, and welcomes future conference proposals.

Six CMS members were named Fellows by the Fields Institute last week: Dr. Irene Fonseca (Carnegie Mellon University), Dr. Maia Fraser (uOttawa), Dr. Jane Heffernan (York University), Dr. Leah Edelstein-Keshet (University of British Columbia), Dr. Ján Mináč (Western University), and Dr. Adam Van Tuyl (McMaster University). Congratulations to the new fellows!
