Gears of Glebe - Team 1053
Gears of Glebe is a robotics team at Glebe Collegiate Institute in Ottawa.
We participate in international competitions such as FIRST, SKILLS, and VEX, taking part in the 2011 World Championships in Orlando, Florida for VEX.
We've prototyped our ball grabber which works suprisingly well, and our frame is being put together in Solidworks before hopefully starting its assembly tomorrow. Our idea using the archimedes screw has been unfortunately tossed aside, but at least we'll still have fun launching the balls in the gym! Dodgeball, anyone?

Take a look at 3883's ball grabber prototype, simple and effective: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fIofUolPI78&feature=g-upl&context=G28893acAUAAAAAAAAAA
I'm thinking this might be better than belts.
FRC 2012 Robot Ball Grabber Test Our first prototype of a ball grabber for our robot. Working great. Feel free to ask any questions!

This is the notebook that team 1053 entered to the 2011 VEX Gateway competition. A 36 page, 25,000 word notebook written up in a matter of hours. Not bad, eh?

I just found two of my favourite rules. Try to guess why this makes our lives so much easier!
And the game is released! Looks interesting this year, especially with our 22 motor limit (and 22 jaguars to catch fire!), and the use of the Kinect. The password to get into the game manual is "!HotShots!KnowBalance!". Start cracking!

Less than 24 hours until the kickoff! Ontop of downloading Simbotics' app, this one created by FIRST should be on your phone by Monday too. It's the manual, along with team updates and the video all in one. This will make navigating the 60-80 page manual much easier, lighter, and cheaper since it's free. Make sure you watch the kickoff online at 10:30am tomorrow: http://science.ksc.nasa.gov/robotics/
