ANITA APPIAH-GURLEY
On my first day in the Interior design program, I walked into class and took a seat. The professor had already started the lecture, so I tried to settle in as quietly as possible. I quickly noticed that everyone had these giant-sized binders in front of them; building code binders and at that moment I began to panic. I thought to myself “I’m not going to make it.” and just then the girl next to me leaned over and said, “Hey, I think you’re in the wrong class, this is 3rd-year Construction IV.” 4 years have passed by since that day and although I believed then that I wasn’t going to make it, this program has equipped me with many design skills and a unique understanding of the profession. Over my time in this program, I have learned to pay close attention to the details and focus on the small and seemingly insignificant things that can have a great impact on the spaces in which we occupy. I have learned that in solving many small problems we can create big solutions.
I didn’t always know I wanted to be an Interior Designer, but I have found my passion. As an aspiring designer, my mission is to share my creativity, excitement, and passion for design through my work and experiences. @ Algonquin College

Interior Design and Architecture have always been of interest to me. I am consistently studying and evaluating designs in order to create more functional living environments. I draw inspiration from a variety of styles and focus on creating depth and interest by prioritizing materiality and colour.
I strive to generate designs that influence a positive atmosphere, embrace an intriguing experience, and implement biophilic design elements to promote the overall health and well being of those who inhabit the space. @ Algonquin College

CORINNE FILL
From drawing blueprints at a young age, to renovating my family home with my father, interior design has
always been a part of my life. It was only after graduating with a degree in Kinesiology from
Dalhousie University in 2016 that I realized that interior design meant something more to me. Today, I believe that Interior design goes way beyond what meets the eye – it is a
multifaceted tool that not only has a strong aesthetic and scientific merit, but is also one of the most personal and expressive versions of the self (client or otherwise). Through an established narrative, interiors communicate a specific design intent while simultaneously addressing the complexity of human behaviour and psychology.
As I now enter into the final weeks of my university career, I look forward to designing spaces that are meaningful, well-informed, and that support the health and well-being of our population through sustainable practices.
Thank you lattes and landscapes for getting me through this long haul. 💃🏼 @ Algonquin College

RENEÉ CARRIERE
Some of my earliest memories are of going to multiple job sites with my dad and spending hours hanging out in developing houses as he worked and I explored the different layouts. Interior design and the built-environment has been an interest of mine since I knew what they were. A large amount of time in my childhood was spent playing the Sims’ computer games and spending more time building new homes and designing multiple layouts than properly playing the game. In grade nine when teachers started asking students what they wanted to go to school for, I knew that I would be pursuing an education in interior design. I never considered any other field while most of my friends were uncertain and constantly changing their minds.
Moving from Sudbury, Ontario to Ottawa, Ontario for the Interior Design program at Algonquin College was such an easy decision after visiting the college one time during a portfolio information session. I knew this program would give me the knowledge and skills required to pursue a career in the field and create a base for the unlimited amount of information and experience that will be imminent soon after graduation and for the duration of my time in the field. I am looking forward to continuing my career path in the interior design field and striving to create functional and creative designs for every user. @ Algonquin College

TOULA GITTAS
From the moment I started Dawson College in their Interior Design program, I knew I was in for a journey. Now, after 3 years at Dawson and 2 years at Algonquin College, I am prepared to take major steps in the built environment using my designs. My passion to look after the health, safety and welfare of people continues to drive me in creating improvements within interior spaces. My goal is to discover design solutions that will have a positive impact on the way users access and operate in spaces.
I have my family to thank for all of the positive encouragement and support they have given me throughout my five years of education. In my moments of doubt, they were always the ones to keep pushing me. Also, I will forever be grateful to my professors, advisors, employers and supervisors who granted me the knowledge I now have in interior design.
Thank you to everyone for the amazing years. However, I’m ready to get out of here! @ Algonquin College
